Robocop1051
7.45 seems very light for that build. I assumed the barrel would've been near that mark by itself. It's lookin great so far.
Cali_Ed
i re weighed it broken down in parts barrel-3.30lb handguard with barrel nut- .65lb lower assembly with stock and upper not including charging handle and bolt carrier =3.47lb this time i came up with 7,42lbs im using one of those kitchen scales that measure in different measurements i measured it all in lbs i can go back and do it in oz? Robocop1051
Ah, I just noticed no BCG. There's another pound right there. Did you add a buffer and spring yet? It sure looks like you'll be under 10 lbs before optics. Good job on cutting weight.
Cali_Ed
Yes those are included in the weight. I hope it's some what light

MONTANA308
Looking good! I just weighed my SI build its came across the scale at 14.5 with no mag in it.
mineralman55
Nice looking build. Will an adjustable gas block fit underneath that rail?
Cali_Ed
From the looks of it when I mocked it up, seems the gas block is going to sit right in front of the tube
Cali_Ed
So here she is pretty much complete just no rail and glass and the mag is empty, weighed in at 9.67 The only thing I'm puzzled by is my break. I'm sure the 4 little holes it has on one of the flat sides are supposed to be pointing upward but when I screw it on with the washer they face down???? You need some shims/washers so that it stops with the holes facing up. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrel-hardware/washers/shim-kit-7-62-5-8-24-0-750-od-sku276000030-60403-126208.aspx http://www.ebay.com/itm/Muzzle-Brake-Alignment-Shim-Set-For-5-8-24-Threaded-Rifle-Barrel-308-SAF0002-/151289555840 http://www.gem-tech.com/store/pc/Shim-Kits-for-Mounting-Flash-Hiders-p104.htm Edited June 5, 2014 by shibiwan
98Z5V
It's ok if I want something super light I'll pick up my 556 haha I've got a couple 5.56 rifles that are 10+ lbs, so you're doing alright with this. That's a nice lookin' .308 AR, right there. Good work. <thumbsup>

To make that happen, torque the snot out of it for 1/2 turn. There's another thread over here on how to hold things still whilst torquing. Even so, I like shibiwan's idea of multiple thin washers better.
survivalshop
Some Muzzle device manufacturers sell those shims & there is always a crush washer .
Cali_Ed
I don't think I'd want to over torque it, would washers from a hardware store work or does it have to be those specific osnes?
gnatshooter
I don't think I'd want to over torque it, would washers from a hardware store work or does it have to be those specific osnes? Washers from a hardware store will work -- but there's the issue of outside diameter being larger than the barrel/brake, and it's good to have a variety of thicknesses, which you wouldn't get at the store. I'd recommend something like this: PRIMARY WEAPONS - .308 MUZZLE DEVICE ALIGNMENT SHIMS $4.99 http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/muzzle-brakes/ar-15-m16-ar-style-308-muzzle-device-alignment-shims-prod38890.aspx "Small shims used with large and medium shims provide smaller degrees of rotation for finely-tuned, critical alignment." shibiwan
Install shims, followed by crush washer. Then install the muzzle device and tighten it hand tight - it should be about 1/4-1/2 turn from the correct position. If it isn't, then try a different washer or add/remove washers until it's right. You can then tighten it up to the correct angle and everything should be peachy.
gnatshooter
I have to wonder if you guys would recommend that Cali_Ed use a version of Loctite for holding the clock on the muzzle brake.
