Can anyone tell me anything about the HD in the picture? It was my Great Grandfathers. Family story is the first picture was from the day he brought it home from the Train Station in the crate, second picture was about a year later, I'm not sure it is the same bike even.  When he died in the 1970's there was a big 1950's Indian Chief in his garage, first I ever knew of it was the day they dug it out and sold it, I was a pissed off kid that day!

Idk anything about them but the bottom one looks like the bikes in harley and the davidsons on discovery, btw excellent show. The bottom one looks like the second bikes they put out for flat track racing, early 20's?? I'd love to have anyone them

You’re right, they are two different bikes.  The one in the snow is about 1916 model year, best guess is a model 16-J.

 

The other is about 1914, possibly a model 10-F.  In that photo, he’s wearing an authentic H-D sweater, one of the earliest apparel items H-D ever sold.
