A relative gave my dad a rifle to check out. It's a Venezuelan Mauser but we have no idea what it's chambered for. Best info they could find online lead us to believe it was 7.92x57 or 8mm Mauser...which doesn't drop in. Another recommended .308.....no dice. My research said 7x57 and we haven't tried that yet. Question is....how the hell do you measure a chamber on an unknown barrel? There's got to be a way to do it.

That barrel is going to be just fine...and if for any reason it's not, the Criterion guys are top notch and I'm sure they will take good care of you. Shake out all other options first, because IMO the barrel is probably your least likely spot for your current accuracy issue. As mentioned, be sure the optics are mounted solid. Shoot some heavier bullets. Be sure the barrel but is torqued within specs. Let someone you think is a better shooter than you test it out when you've been through the basic checks...not the answer anyone wants to get, but sometimes we gotta check ourselves too. Might just take a little sweet talking to get her warmed up to you. Welcome aboard.

That looks pretty damn nice. I broke an ear off the pin in the last BCG I got that had one of those. It was likely operator error as I had never used one before and might have applied a little too much force putting back in the first time. I'll stick with the cotter pins.

In the "building a 308AR section just below this one he has a very thorough run down of his rifle. What at range were you shooting at? 3-4 inches is a lot at 100 yards. You mention long range, so I'm assuming much longer than 100.
