  1. Looks like SST , 42-44 grs. stands out , ES is also good , of course the group size, also . A different COL or different primer , could change the others or another powder . That's the beauty of reloading . I have been pushing SST 's for a while now . The bullet is just a performer ,even in other weights. Nice job.
  2. I have to build this one first for my wife's birthday in July , then I have another .308 to build .
  3. Stock will be a Magpul (of course ) ACS or ACS -L . Barrel will be a Noveske , not sure which one , but will be a 16". I had a chrome lined Double Star bbl. in the other rifle & it was a very good shooter , but want to see why every one likes the Noveske. I for one have no problems with another DS bbl.. Hand guard , a Mid length ,but not sure yet , maybe try some thing new to me & I want it like the Troy on my 300 BLK. Nice small dia. for the little hands .
  4. Yes , my thinking also.
  5. That's the same one I have & I put it on a camera tripod , tripod has bubble levels. Works OK , I can see the holes in the target, no problem , like they are in your face.
  6. If its the one he is waiting for a barrel & BCG , it should be stripped , some what . <laughs>
  7. Well blow me down , its a FB bullet , You may be able to get more powder in the case with a FB bullet . Yes I will try them. I like the TNT( I think it shot the best of my test loads) , but its made for Varmint hunting & seems a little light in the jacket . Can't wait to order some . I put a better scope on my 300BLK today, may try it out Sunday .
  8. Proper grease on the barrel nut threads & tighten ,loosen three times before the final gas tube line up . On the third , you can line up the gas tube passage in the upper receiver. Other than that , as said above .
  9. The one on the far right is for select fire , do I win ?
  10. Well some went out & gave me a gift certificate , so I had to blow it on rifle parts . My Brownells order came today & I got a DSA upper receiver & I was , as always, when buying a product from a manufacturer , waiting to see how well its made . The DSA got good reviews so , I wanted to see it . I'm putting it on my LWRC lower & it will be a 5.56 cal.. The upper matched perfectly in both finish & fit , nice tight fit between the lower & upper. This is a replacement for the wife's carbine that I needed a part for , for a friend (barrel ) .My wife is a lefty , so its going to be as ambidextrous as much as I can . This is why I started a thread about barrels , but think , I no longer care , I know the good ones , so it doesn't really matter how they compare . I will be looking into that next. I also picked up a lower parts kit , minus the trigger & hammer . A Geissele will be going in . This kit has the parts looking like they are blued , not sure if I've seen that before , going to have to look at my spare pats to see if any of them are like that.
  11. That's a good question & is why I removed the rail. I 'm sure you can put any thing there you put on a rail on a hand guard , but I would think , your arm would get in the way , some what. Mine doesn't have a forwad assist , I think the Gen III does, so that has to add . 20 % sounds like a lot , but when dealing with ,light , to begin with , not so much. I think , as I said , the upper & lower , would not be the place to lighten things up , there is not much there to scrimp on & would you want to ? The barrel is the big weight in any 308 or other rifle & stock choice is the next . You could go light weight BC , but you have to adj. other things to make them work properly. Like adding weight to the buffer.
  12. Can't help ya with the die , never used or even seen one , but are you having bullet set back from feeding ? Do you really need the crimp die or if you are just making sure , you don't have set back when in competition mode ? (Can't blame ya there ) Getting uneven or excessive crimp can cause problems , as you know . Call Lee or email them , they are quite helpfull. Now you are going to make me buy some 125 MK's . How about a photo of said SMK ?
  13. This is how it works , if you squeeze the company enough , they will shut down & move . Just the way it is & as much as it is your right to use a union to get more out of them , its there right to get up & move away from it to keep there company solvent . Not so with the public sector , they get what ever they want , because elected officials don't want to make waves for reelection & we the tax payers will pay for it . I also have a little story , well more than one ,but this one stands out . Big ship yard on the great lakes , making all the big ship[s for the great lakes & then some , well with four or five different unions , they were taking turns striking just about every year & of course the other union members would not cross the line to work , so the ship yard closed down until the strike was over & they some times lasted for many months . Well the owner finally got fed up with it & built ,moved the ship yard down to Florida & closed one of the largest employers in the city & thousands of jobs were forever lost. I'm sure we should blame the company . <dontknow>
  14. Some ballistic tipped bullets are very expensive , just how they are made , makes cost. Hard to believe the 125 MK will be any different than the other MK's . I see no photo of it on there sight , but I know when you get yours you will bless us with one . <thumbsup>
  15. I read an article last week when I was looking for some thing else & it caught my eye . It was about steel cased ammo & the coating on the case , I think it was a cleaning article or some thing, but it said that when the barrel is warm (or hot ) from firing & you pause for any length of time with a steel case round in the chamber , that the coating some times glues the case into the chamber & can cause that & next fired round to have problems extracting . Some thing to think about & if you have been using the steel cased stuff , make sure the rifles chamber is clean . I was told that Kroil will break the residue free from the barrel innards.
  16. I went through the whole thing , copied & pasted it to Microsoft word & made a file of the article , with out all the stuff in between . Much cleaner for me & I printed it out for reading at work , when I get a chance.
  17. Only the hands ,have to be clean.
  18. I think he was referring to this I would stay with POF , upper & lowers, for the simple fact is they have some propitiatory parts , like the pivot & disassemble pins . Not sure about there barrel nuts or the upper receiver threads in it for the barrel nut . All things you need to check out , some will know here . As far as what gas system you go with , its a matter of personal preference. Piston systems add a little weight compared to a DI system ,but POF has a good system , just pricey.
  19. I think all (except Armilite) AR 308 lowers are billet & the DPMS uppers are not . My SI defence upper is a little heavier than my DPMS upper that's not billet . The SID does have an extra rail on the left side , that I removed , so that would add weight even with out the rail on there . Its got a block , raised portion of the upper where the rail bolts to & it doesn't have a forward assist like my DPMS has. I don't think there's enough of a difference there to matter on the receivers, upper or lowers.
  20. The JP Vtac is a nice hand guard & its the way its attached to the upper that , at least to me, is a better platform . I used a 3/8 rail to match my rail height SI defence upper( same rail height as older DPMS). All the rails for the JP Vtac attach with screws & you can get 1/4 " height also ,as you Know. Not sure if different manufacturers rails are interchangeable , but they could be . Mine for the Vtac, I got from Brownells , a little less expensive for me & they had slightly elongated holes for the screws on the rail for better alignment. Is this the one you are talking about .
  21. Jgun, Should of kept the ones I had in the cases I sent you , you would have test components . <laughs> I think the SMK 125 gr. bullet will be a great shooter . Just think of the 135 gr. SMK that I sent you & take ten grains off the weight of the bullet , not much huh ! The 125 SMK should look almost the same . Long & sleek. I like the performace of a BT to a FB bullet , they just fly a little better to me . Not to mention , they stick right in the case when reloading . Nothing like having a tapered bullet to help start it in the case. I will find time tomorrow to compare my notes to the loading data from G&A. As far as the Nosler's velocity, you are right , many factors that could of contributed to the increase. I liked that loading my self , it kinda stood out .
  22. What cal. were they talking about ? <dontknow>
  23. Nice looking piece . Those are made from S/S are they not ?
  24. Are you switching sights & if so , who's going to do it ? I heard the XDM sights are really on there .
  25. I think all spotting scopes get kinda shaky at full magnification , but you will generally find , the big name , big $$ ones work better at higher magnification . I need to get a better one my self .
