  1. Ordered a 223 conversion to go with the 308 I already have. Also three extra tool heads . I think I will just use the Dillon for rifle loading . I also ordered the Dillon case lube to see if indeed it is better than my RCBS lube pad, that I have been using for more than thirty years.
  2. The Lemi shine may treat for hard water ,but it is also chemically cleaning the brass . This why some use it on badly tarnished brass , to chemically clean it with out any tumbling. I have no doubt that ,that system cleans the brass ,by use of chemicals & peening by the SS media. As you say the liquid keeps it all in suspension & after rinsing & drying ,its ready. I would imagine the peening process would be a little harsher in a std.( non vibrator type) tumbler. I may try some, mixed at first ,with my treated media .
  3. I have read good things about the SS media , but my point is not how the brass is polished or cleaned ,its all the extra steps involved with that particular system (or others like it ) It takes long enough to produce good reloads ,adding more steps to me just makes it harder & longer than is needed . How does the SS media work by its self as a cleaning media ?
  4. I have a different out look . I keep any fire arm loaded if its in a position to be used for self defence . Cambering a round in a defensive encounter is ,IMO, flirting with disaster. All this racking of slides only gives your adversary knowledge you don't need to give them . Not to mention if there is a FF ( jam ) or the round was not chambered & you think it was. I can see if you have small children at home , the situation changes . I no longer have a small child at home ,so my preparedness is different than ones who do . The 1100 I keep with "00" is cocked & locked. It may be needed by my wife & she is not familiar with its loading (yet ) so all she has to do is push the safety off & pull the trigger . Just fumbling around with a slide release on a pump gun is bad enough in the middle of the night. Every one has there way of preparedness & what ever you are comfortable with is a good way .
  5. I'm in favor of what ever works for you is a good thing . There are a lot of ways to skin a cat (so to speak ,I like cats ) as there are many ways that work to clean brass. I would use the Lemi shine on range brass as I have read about it and as you can see by the Video on that SS media sight , they use it also , so whats the advantage of using SS media , when you can get the same results with the Lemi Shine & std tumbling media ? I did not check price and if it lasts forever that's a good thing economically ,if the price is right . I do not like to use a water solution on any brass , just the way I was taught . Maybe out dated ,but I use the treated tumbling media & get the same results as the SS,Lemi Shine ,water mixture .No mixing ,rinsing ,drying etc.. As I said, I wipe the brass off after tumbling & my system has worked for many many years & I'm still using the same dies for over twenty five years . I still hand clean my primer pockets after the brass have been cleaned & sized/deprimed. I do not like putting dirty brass through my dies. Hell, I'm still using the same rock polisher for thirty years .
  6. It was a brutal week ,but shot a nine point bruiser at 1300 hrs , Thursday from 158 paces in a tree stand . I walked it off when I got down so at least I could believe it . Not bad for a 12ga. slug gun . If it wasn't for the sprinkling of snow I would have not seen him. Had to put the Nikon on nine power & he drooped like a rock. YUM YUM
  7. My CMMG lower & SI Defence billet upper have a little play also ,as does my DPMS . I don't see it as a problem , some like them tight & believe that makes them better long range shooters . I have yet to see a test of any sort to prove that claim , but there may be some truth to it or maybe a tighter fit may hinder long range ability. IMO as long as you have no up & down , front to back ,play at the pins ,it should shoot just fine . There are also ways to make the pin lugs ,in the upper ,where they fit into the lower , a little tighter. That may also open another can of worms as far as proper alignment with internal components in the lower receiver.
  8. I sized some 308's , now I 'm triming them & will see how she works .
  9. Yes ,photo's or we don't believe you ! <laughs>
  10. You can start a new thread on which is stronger or not . Glad to see you got her working Doc. Now get out the & put lead down range. Photo's please.
  11. I would buy one . I think SI defence makes good stuff . It would be a good start on another 308, like build around it kinda thing. <thumbsup>
  12. Whats the round count through the rifle? When you load a round for hunting do you let the BCG go ,after pulling the charging handle all the way back or do you follow it into position with the charging handle ? Run it wet.
  13. Gives me confidence in Bushmaster Quality control. Sounds to me like DPMS put it together, not Bushmaster. The rifle should have been sent back as soon as it was noticed . I know, a little late now. I would shoot them an email on what you found , ya never know ,they might surprise ya with a new gas tube .
  14. Doc What receiver extension are you using ? I see you say Commercial , so I would assume it is a carbine receiver extension ,am I right ? I only say that because you have a Mil Spec & commercial receiver extensions for a collapsible stock configurations. If you are using a rifle stock , you would need a rifle ,receiver extension (buffer tube ) Now if you have a rifle buffer and or spring or any combo other than the right spring & buffer combination , you will have problems . I am running a 16" barrel , with a rifle length gas system & a DPMS carbine buffer & spring & have had no cycling problems at all . Just some mags won't push the bolt stop up far enough on last round (PMags have all worked ) Just certain DPMS & Cproducts will not operate it all the time . At first no mag would hold the BCG back on last round. Yet these same mags. all work in my 20" rifle with DPMS upper/lower . You will like the PRI brake ,I have one on my 20" rifle.
  15. Need more info on what stock you have , Carbine ( collapsible) or std. rifle. If its a DPMS type , you can use the corresponding AR 15 receiver extension (buffer tube ) carbine(collapsible ) or rifle . Here's the big ,BUT you will have to have the right 308 spring & buffer for the particular stock configuration. Armilite uses the same spring for both & may need modification to work in any of the DPMS types.
  16. Put it up for sale , here of other forums, some one will pick it up .
  17. My wife just informed me , she got me one for my birthday ,that's this weekend . I wanted to scream like a little girl !
  18. Here ya go . This was the cleanest used firearm I have ever bought & I mean clean ,inside & out .
  19. Does any one want to see some porno shots of my King Cobra ? And this is truly a sickness, At the same time I picked up my Colt ,I put half down on an XDM .45. & I still need to send money for the Trigger group by . Will it never end ? <dontknow>
  20. If there is not a magazine in the rifle , the bolt stop has no holding power , sure it is part of the function test , just to see if it mechanically can hold the bolt open , but as said with out the mag. in there you have nothing to hold back the heavy spring pressure of the buffer spring . If it holds momentarely , its working . The mag. is what keeps it in possession to hold the BCG open . All you are basically doing with the function test is to see if the bolt stop goes up enough to hold the BCG . The 308 BCG & the 308 buffer spring have a lot more mass & spring pressure than its little brother . If you have other AR's, try the same test , with out a mag. in an empty rifle , manually engage the bolt stop and slap the rifle stock or some thing & you will see the BCG go back in battery. The spring on the bolt stop is there to to reset the the bolt stop ,back into its normal position.,so with out the spring loaded mag. follower to hold it up , the BS spring is pressuring the BS to go back in its normal position also . So that gives three components forcing the BCG back into battery with out a mag. to hold the stop up ,BCG mass, buffer spring & the bolt stop return spring , you asking a lot of just the friction interference of that little bit of bolt face, that the bolt stop has a hold of, to hold it open ,with out the mag in place If the bolt stop is not holding at all , then you have some thing not right. The BS has to cover a certain amount of the bolt face for it to work properly . If you are using an AR 15 BS , than you may want to look into the larger one made by DPMS ,just for the 308 BCG.
  21. Just remember the Armilite Carbine receiver extension uses "there" buffer spring , where as DPMS compatible rifles use the std. AR carbine receiver extension's. In other words , you can use any AR carbine receiver extension in a DPMS type AR 308 ,but will need 308 buffer spring & buffer. If you use a Armilite buffer spring in a std AR carbine receiver extension you may need to alter it for proper function.(longer spring , as shown above ) Some mix them & you can , but I don't . Its just me . Why mess with some thing that works , these company's spend a lot on R&D to make sure the combo of components work. And then you have the custom made springs & buffers , as show above also.
  22. Do you have a mag. in the rifle & the bolt stop will not hold ? If you don't have a mag. in , it is normal for it not to hold . The spring pressure from the mag. spring on the mag. follower is what operates & holds the bolt stop up to hold the BCG open.
  23. Gun Slick or Mil spec grease lightly on the bolt lugs & cam pin , & CLP , run them wet , real wet at first. Yes , DPMS has quite a few tight/rough chambers. Note ;WD40 is the last thing you want to use. It will break down other beneficial lubricants. Make sure you get it all out .
  24. Impressive !
