  1. It's hard not to be proud of a rifle that runs like my AR-10, never lets me down if I do my part. The previous owner of Armalite did send letters when their trademark was infringed but I haven't heard of this happening for some time now. They mostly concentrated on companies selling parts that were not for the AR-10, actually a good service for all involved.

  3. I'm using a discontinued SLR brake from one of their blem sales. I don't have anything to compare it to, the rest of my rifles have plain A2 flash hiders, but I like it aside from the extra noise. Armalite has been discounting a very similar brake; https://armalite.com/shop/ar-10-threaded-recoil-check/
  4. Had it made by X-Caliber, here is the thread from the start. I went with them mainly to follow the "rule". It was a pain getting the port size sorted out but with all the guidance I received here it was a very good learning experience and a successful build. If I had to do it again, and most likely will, I'd go with the Criterion.
  5. That MI Billet receiver looks sharp to me. If all dimensions and material qualities were equal the forged would be just a bit stronger, you can see their billet is beefier but done in 6061 instead of the 7075 of the forged so it is hard to compare as far as strength goes without having all the dimensions and a metallurgy degree. I think it boils down to paying more for the aesthetics of the billet. The billet does have a few extras like being set up for the 45 degree BadAss selector, flared magwell, and the integral trigger guard on the billet saves holding your breath while you drive the roll pin. From what I've seen of MI products you'll get good quality either way.
  6. Everything from 130 gr. MK319 to 175 gr. 7.62 FGMM. I haven't had a chance to stretch past 100 yards with the 16 incher yet so it's hard to say what will perform the best but I've gotten 1 moa with both.
  7. I'm loving my 16 inch rifle gas carbine, soft shooting and a much lighter feel than my 20 inch. I've never shot an 18 in 308 but find my carbine more maneuverable than my 18 inch 5.56 target rifle. Keep us updated on the build!
  8. You beat me to it, I've had good luck emailing MI with questions, many times I get a response that day and always by the next. They will also give you direct answers on specifics, they gave me the exact numbers for the clearence I would have on a SLR adjustable block. You'll have to post some pictures for us when you get it together.
  9. Hope those are locking wheels on that dolly............
  10. Welcome from Iowa, via North Carolina. For a two stage trigger I really like my Geissele SSA-E, for a single stage the Mech Armour Rough Justice trigger is a great quality trigger for the money. Check out the group buy offer from Mech Armour on a trigger-charging handle combo; http://mechdefense.com/products/308ar-com-group-buy-trigger-sale
  11. Welcome from Iowa, via North Carolina. I like the grip on the magpuls with the + designation; https://www.magpul.com/products/moe-plus-grip-ar15-m4 There are more rails available for your platform than I could post links for. I've got a Midwest Industries SS that I really like, you just put rails where you want them. They also have similar rails with M-Lock and Keymod attachments; https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=1207 I'm sure others will come along and add their favorites soon.
  12. Godspeed Mike.
  13. I have to question competence when one dives into welding a receiver for a weapon that they have not researched enough to know the difference in charging handles, and no all 308AR charging handles are not the same but the vast majority would be compatible with your "DPMS" version. Back to my question, Why? Is it just to see if you can make it work or are funds that tight? The answer to this question could have bearing on future questions.
  14. I'd highly recommend a long string for the testfire........... I'll never underestimate what a good metalworker can pull off. I've seen some antique tools welded back together and finished off so well the naked eye would never know. The hours the used to do this were extensive though so it's a matter of what is your time worth when you assign the cheap label to a project like this. No doubt it can be done but WHY is the word that comes to my mind.
  15. The rod in question goes inside the spring. It adds some tension and is supposed to help with reliability and spring life. It can be a real bear getting everything together and the pin in when it is new but after a few 100 rounds it gets easier.

  17. I've bought several of their items and been real happy with them.

  19. That LAW device is looking like a must get..........
  20. Looks like the ramps on my Sig P716 when I got it, cut my finger feeling her up! They "polished" them when I shipped it back the first time.........
  21. My first AR was a 308 as well but I got bit good with the bug after that as well. My first full build was a 308AR with a 16 inch rifle gas system. I had some issues with the barrel maker undersizing the gas port but with some expert guidance from the good folks here I got it sorted out to be a very reliable weapon. You should be fine with a 16 inch barrel versus the 18 for what you want.

  23. When ArmaLite gave up the ghost and started producing the P-Mag models I think our chances for alternate mag sources became slim to none. On the plus side the B-mags are almost indestructible, of 3,000+ rounds from my AR-10 the vast majority were fired from one 15 round magazine and it shows no sign of giving up.
  24. I sure can't recommend the Sig 716 in my experience. I have a thread in the Sig section on the issues I'm having with it. So far customer service has been nice but totally ineffective in solving the issue. I've seen numerous threads on the SigTalk forum with the same problems. My PM400 on the other hand has been a very reliable "pistol".
