I don't know which fire it was but I caught the news blaming sparks from a trailer being pulled down the highway........... <dontknow>

A lazy ass relative started one of those fund me things with a sob story about needing to fix his car so he could go to work and pick up his kids for visitation.....he made $10 in 30 days. Waste of time and just plain un-American begging for money. The American way.....friends and family help friends and family. Post a list of parts you need, if I can contribute to your build I will.

I can't give you any fancy calculations or formulas to back it up but don't mess with the chamber area, hell don't mess with what a manufacturer will give you anywhere on a barrel. The extra mass for a semi vs. bolt may relate to the ability of the mass to absorb and disperse the extra heat involved in rapid fire (mag dumps), heat weakens the metal causing failure. Why either risk a failure or limit yourself to what a bolt action could do for a rate of fire. One of the main reasons the original version of the AR-10 failed the military trials was a lightweight barrel that burst.

I'm not sure the group buy is going to happen but there is a shot at it anyway. Even without any discount those wilson BCG's are a bargain!
-
Check out d. wilson; http://www.dwilsonmfg.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html There may be a group buy or some sort of discount being worked on. Several here have gotten BCG from them with no complaints and lots of praise. VERY reasonable price as well! Do a search and you will find some reviews here.

As a kid I had a dozen model planes hanging from my ceiling, B-17 to the Blackbird. Read everything I could get my hands on about the U-2 and the SR-71...'Merica!

As long as I keep my CC permit current I can buy a shotgun, rifle, or pistol and get it on the spot with just the basic form to fill out.....makes those impulse buys real easy!

X-Caliber Barrel & MFG, Anyone know about these?
jtallen83 replied to jtallen83's topic in General Discussion
Dustin from X-Caliber called me early this afternoon about the dinged thread. He offered to take the barrel back if I didn't want to mess with it or I could try to clean it up myself. If I try to clean it up and have problems they will still take it back. He also said that either way he will make sure I'm well taken care of on the next barrel for all the hassle <thumbsup> I wish I could get a picture of the bore in this barrel, it is the slickest I have ever seen  -

X-Caliber Barrel & MFG, Anyone know about these?
jtallen83 replied to jtallen83's topic in General Discussion
The barrel arrived on Tuesday so the turnaround was pretty quick. Here are some pictures; The chamber is very smooth and the bore is like a mirror aside from the very crisp rifling. The matt finish appears flawless, very even all around. The roll mark is bigger than I like but then that will be hidden so no big deal. I was glad to see the dimple for the gas block is located so I don't have to worry about locating it. The crown looks good but the threads got damaged in shipping, the plastic guard was split so it took a good whack; After the great customer service I hate to have to ship it back again, I'm thinking I can clean this damage up with a needle file....what say you all, try it myself or or bother X-Caliber about it? ??? I got my handrail today so I hope to get a chance to do a mock-up this weekend. I'm thinking I'll start another thread in the Matrix section and go over my parts list and where I need advice -
Swage then prime. Do you have a manual? Reading the manual is a must, there are several out there that are good.

I heard them talk about using a deburring tool to cut out the crimp on the reloaders podcast but It doesn't sound right to me. I have a RCBS swage tool for removing the crimp, used it very little so far but it worked. What doesn't look right? pics maybe

That looks to be a perfect fit!

5.56 Troy battlemags on sale $7.99 @ Primary Arms
jtallen83 replied to Malig8r's topic in Sales and Coupons
They must not have had many in stock....... if I place the order I wonder if the sale price will be honored? Might have to try it. They took my order so we'll see what kind of delay there is. -
Sweet! Things have come a long way since the brass and gold beads of my youth. Might have to invest in something like these when my 1911 night sights dull out, looks like there is some real accuracy potential as well as fast acquisition.

I love this place, from a precision rifle to glitter and strippers in one page

Curious what issues you have with RECOIL? I've found their reviews to be thorough and unbiased. That said they seem to review a BUNCH of stuff I'll never be able to afford :-[ I always enjoy the centerfolds!

How do you prefer to attach your two point?
jtallen83 replied to beachmaster's topic in General Discussion
I find myself gravitating to a QD on the buffer tube behind the receiver or in the case of my Sigs on the lower rear portion of the receiver for the rear attachment point. I find it easier to maneuver things with cold weather gear on that way as well as moving the rifle to my weak side easier. So far the downside for me has been not being able to wrap the sling on my arm as easy as I could if it was on the back of the buttstock, could just be a muscle memory issue on my part though. -
Bushnell Elite Tactical 1-6.5x24 Scope Review
jtallen83 replied to jtallen83's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Using this chart I get 3.3 MOA at 300yds, 5.94 MOA at 400yds, 9.57MOA at 500yds,and 14.19 MOA at 600 yds. This is figured at 3,000fps so the barrel length would be just over 16 inches according to velocity charts for M855 I've looked at. Do you have the online instructions for this reticle? http://bushnell.com/getmedia/fd0ba3d0-78ca-4acf-82ce-8760bdb31374/EliteTacticalScopes_IlluminatedReticles_1LIM_web.pdf?ext=.pdf I would think the information given for the FFP version would still hold true with the SFP on 6.5x so that should help some. "The “T’s” are used as a bracketing system to best fit a 12”x18” target. When acquiring your target, find the best fit bracket and send your shot. With the reticle in the first focal plane your shot can be taken at any magnification range." It would be nice if Bushnell could be more precise on this topic. I'm going to email the question to a CS guy I've dealt with there and see if he can get me anything. I'll be sure to remind him of all the coin I've dropped on their products these last few years.......they should help me out!
