  1. Loving it, it is well past a thousand rounds now! I will be getting the same scope with the 5.56 BDC reticle and putting this one on my Matrix build. I've run it on most all my rifles and not had any issues. Last June it took a good blow in a car wreck, a pickup turned in front of me. I T-boned him at about 35, the scope and rifle came over the back seat, hit the dash and ended up in the front seat next to me, not a mark on it and no adjustments needed on the zero. I've shot it in the rain,in the snow, at 100F, and at -7F without issue. Some day I hope to take advantage of the NV settings.
  2. Best thing out there? A subjective statement at best. The writers tend to write about new products, piston guns are the new guy on the market so they get the attention. How many articles have you seen the weapon in question called a peice of crap? ??? well maybe the Remington R51........... Piston guns have their place, sounds like you have a place for one if it will just be a toy and you don't plan on doing any modifications. You should be able to get a top line piston weapon for $3,000.....you could easily buy all the tools and get top of the line parts to make your own gas gun for that same money.....just a thought.
  3. Don't get hung up on the piston thing. I have a Sig P716 piston gun and an Armalite AR-10 DI gun. The Sig is not that much cleaner, only real difference is inside the carrier and part of the bolt doesn't get caked on carbon, there is still plenty of powder residue to clean, the piston at the gas block is every bit as dirty as as the bolt on my AR-10. The kicker is 3,000+ rounds from the Armalite and I can't recall any malfunctions even with crap remanufactured ammo that was splitting case necks. Maybe 300 rounds or so in the Sig and it has had three double feeds, this may just be break-in blues. The Armalite is far more accurate but then they are two very different guns with very different purposes. If my Mother told me to get her a rifle it would be an ArmaLite.............
  4. Excellent show Rob! I predict an encore <thumbsup>
  5. Why did you have to clean her, malfunctions? 3 hours?must have been a detailed white glove cleaning <laughs>
  6. I listened to a podcast interview with Dustin at X-Caliber, prices are going to go up when they get their new website up and running, sometime this month! I'm thinking I may put the rest of my current build on hold and order another barrel or two while they are so cheap.........
  7. More than kinda weak....that is a$$hole $hit right there! Guess they figured if the VA can get away with reneging on a promise then what the hell........I hope the word spreads on this, they deserve a public tongue lashing for sure! http://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/2vb0z3/trijicon_backs_out_on_providing_40_discount_for/
  8. I know this is a real old post but I thought I could add some good info here,I make my own liquid HBN for treating bores, 1 part HBN powder and about 15 parts alcohol. The HBN settles out so you have to shake it good before wetting a patch. When the alcohol evaporates after application you can see a light film.
  9. Welcome from Iowa! Looks like you're working from an 80%?
  10. Just ordered a SYNERGY BRAKE 308 from SLR Rifleworks; http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=116&product_id=560 I'm wondering if Cerakote C will stick to this for long? ????
  11. Must be something new, my AR-10 cam pins are the same on both sides...........
  12. To bad today's Dems are not like Truman.....but then I'd hate to have to go through another FDR to get to one! If only the politicians of the day would have listened to MacArthur and Patton.................
  13. Just checked out precisionriflepodcast, Dustin from X-caliber does an interview there just a few podcasts back from the most current......I'm downloading them for my listening pleasure, couldn't wait to find the code, just ordered a BCG from d.wilson so I could get the bolt sent of to X-Caliber ASAP <thumbsup>
  14. I don't do F-book......hope I can find it on the podcast page............I need all the discounts I can get!
  15. I may call tomorrow and see if I can do the same thing with a bolt, I like the idea of not having to mess with it myself. Wilson looks to be as good a price or better than most on BCG's, think I might go with the Nitride. X-caliber either has some 308 barrels already in the process on my order or you're having to wait till they get a reamer for the .338. I sure wasn't planning on getting it all this quick......might have to sell a few goodies and get this build done!
  16. Ordered the X-Caliber barrel this afternoon. Dealt with Rob, he told me it would be in production tomorrow morning and should ship before the end of the week. 308 Win., 416R bead blasted stainless, 16 inch medium contour, .750 at the gas block, rifle length gas system, 11 degree target crown, with a LR-308 pattern extension. Price with shipping was $245. They didn't know the source of the bolt they are using for headspace but said they have not heard back from anyone with headspace issues. Another box checked in my first 308AR build, next up, BCG...........any suggestions let'em fly!
  17. Range time with family can be expensive but is always priceless! <thumbsup> Are you going to stick with the moly bullets? I've messed with HBN some and noticed a difference in cleaning time, curious what the moly does for you there, I've heard both good and bad about it
  18. So what will happen when everyone has a pistol on their side? I'm betting it would be a more polite society.........minus a few idiots. In today's environment I can understand wanting to stay concealed and that is fine with me. For myself, I'd like to take my chances, Molon Labe.....................if you think you can.
  19. Got a reply to my email already; " Thank You for your purchase. Strike Industries Ultimate Dust Covers have been tested and fits great on almost all the AR-15 Platforms, However when it comes to the AR-10 Platform we have noticed some variances in receiver design and specs making exact fitment hit or miss. Feedback from our customers has varied from quick installation to minor fitting needed such as sanding or shaving of material. Do not be afraid to modify the dust cover as needed but if it doesn't work for you we will gladly refund your purchase. As to the possibility of you receiving a counterfeit Dust cover, The Ebay re seller you purchased from is one of our oldest and best customer so please continue to purchase with confidence. Ebay has been removing alot of our products from there site because of their views on the second amendment and firearm related products. If you have any more questions or concerns please let us know. Thank You, MILLER" Appears to be very good customer service. I'll shave away till I get a good fit.
  20. Shoot off an email to Chris and ask; contactus@centralfloridafirearms.com http://www.centralfloridafirearms.com/product-category/firearms/ It will be worth the effort if he does!
  21. I'm hoping to get a barrel ordered from X-Caliber next week, this is a thread I started here that nailed it down for me. They can give you what you want. All the mentions I've found have been positive but they are pretty new to the market.
  22. That is just silly. maybe a small advantage for small shrapnel but even a .22 is likely to leave a person with a brain bleed. Bet the zombie hunters eat them up! :yup:
  23. Careful what you wish for <laughs>
  24. With a project coming in the near future I've been contemplating some of these same questions? I hadn't thought about the gas block, I was just assuming I would need to have it installed before the finish??? Just how far do I put things together before I Cerakote? Any good references for this would be appreciated.
  25. So all my favorite Geissele's will be out of stock till they catch up on the BIG order, ??? unless they really expand........better move the trigger to the top of the purchase list for the Matrix build, need one for my P716 as well.
