  1. I received two new extractors from JP, one on warrenty and bought an extra. Guy from JP I talked to last week, apparently a engineer, was cool and could offer a failure mechanism, but didn't hesitate to warranty for me. I told him I'm using the CAR 10-XH buffer and he didn't have a bad reaction to that. He said that it probably slams back forward pretty good. He said if I wanted I could just swap a stock carbine buffer and spring in there. And I was concerned that my barrel nut has ish loads of torque on it but he said it's a non issue. I said there could be 150 lbs on it but he said it is okay and won't harm anything and he doesn't think mil spec is enough. Anyway I'll run new extractor and if it breaks later I'll probably go with different buffer in the UBR. She was running good before it broke.
  2. Ranger, that's great news, good for you! Which buffer? Yeah, I never shot cheap ammo in mine, but they say it can be a bad thing.
  3. At bottom of LR-20 Pmag it rocks back & forth a good 1/8" maybe 3/16" in my JD lower.
  4. JP enhanced bolt in the JD build. I was testing a Varget load, nothing hot at all @ 43 gn w/168 Amax. It was going on 3:00 pm yesterday when I called JPE from the Left Coast, called from range immediately after I realized it. Chick took my # and said she'd have someone call back. It was going on 5:00 (I think) where they at so I was thinking they call back this morning. Still nothing so I'm gonna call again. Also, since this has happened, I wonder if I just might send them the upper and have them remove barrel and re-torque for me. The guy who torqued it for me, same guy who lapped front end of receiver, torqued the holy hell out of it. I watched him do it and and when it got close and just had to clear a "spline" on the nut out of the way of gas tube hole he just kept torquing and torquing until clear. I asked how much torque on there and he said "I don't know". He was leaning on the long wrench bar big time. God only knows how much pressure and I'll never use that guy again. So maybe I should just send it to the pro's and let them do it right. Also Slash's CAR 10-XH buffer + JP LMOS BCG + adjustable gas block, I wonder if that is not good to mix those up? Maybe I should use new JP Silent Captured Spring? That's probably what JP would say, of course they would. But I dunno if the way I have it is not so good. Could be reason for broke extractor but who knows, I don't. Still though it always seemed to run good. Edit; hmmmm but I'm running UBR I wonder if silent captured spring will even work in there... I'm calling them now I'll update here later.....
  5. :'( So serves me right for not having replacement spare on hand. I'm ordering two new ones to keep one spare. The tooth at end broke clean off.
  6. My JD magwell measures out to 2.9630. For your reference I took measurement from the top of magwell, not the bottom where mag inserts into. It's difficult to get accurate reading from bottom of well. And I had the calipers slid all the way to to side wall. Both sides are pretty equal. I use Pmags exclusively and they have been error free in my JD lower.
  7. Ask ipsick! He has one on JP barrel. PM him....
  8. Mine has JP LMOS BCG, JP Adj. Gas Block and Slash's CAR 10-XH buffer w/mod'd Armalight spring. As you know, ipsick, I have the Smith Vortex FH. They call it a flash eliminator, but I had in the mountains and fired a round off in the darkness. There was a flash coming outa there and I was not impressed. The LMOS BCG and buffer and adj gas block reduced "felt" recoil. Shooting off hand muzzle recoil ain't so bad at all. And felt recoil is rather subdued, tame. Shooing prone or off bench there is a good little jump. We should meet at SL range soon when you can and you can take the wheel and see how it handles.

  10. This, is THE agenda! I have nothing to substantiate that but, since our 2nd Ammendment is the greatest thing we can lose as far as our rights go, I will always assume this is THE agenda.
  11. I have the JP AGB. I like that it is a clam shell design so don't need to worry about muzzle device if I ever need to remove GB. sooner or later I'll get a longer set screw to use as adjustment screw, and use lock nuts to lock it.
  12. This is a good idea for you Matt. I'm glad to hear it. It keeps me sane now that I have lots of time on hand. I have a tv on my reloading bench, like to watch a Giants baseball game and prep cases/load ammo <laughs> I should get back to those load development threads I started, been neglecting them.
  13. Bro if you get, got the Hornady L&L maybe the Hornady 8th edition reloading book is a good book choice for you. The first part of the book has lots of pics and instruction on how to reload. And of course it's all pics using their presses and tools/gauges and stuff. I got that book recently since I like their bullets. But you should get a powder mfr's book too, like Hodgdens latest, or whomever powder brand you like most. At gun shows when I buy powder or bullets, the right vendor has reloading manuals/pamphlets they give out free with purchase. I have one from Alliant and Hodgden.
  14. Darn it I was hoping you chose this one from Rainier http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2338
  15. Hi blwn99x, Glad to see you want to get into reloading. You will be able to shoot custom ammo for cheaper than premium factory ammo. But you will probably find you will shoot more because of it and maybe spend as much :) What calibers will be loading? I assume .308 will be at least one of them, I hope? You say you are not ready for all those tools in that expansion kit. I don't have some of those particular tools and I get by fine so far. But what accessory tools do you plan on? You probably know pretty much what you can get by on. Besides the press and relevant dies you need a way to clean spent brass. I was using Lyman vibrator with walnut media but recently switched to a small ultrasonic cleaner I got at Harbor Freight for $30. I got bottles of lemon juice from walmart and mix it into distilled water. It works good enough, better than the other way, IMO, I can do 25 .308 cases at a time and that's all I need in my case. You will need good calipers, case trimmer, case mouth de-burr/chamfer tool, case length/head space gauge, case lube, probably inside case brushes, primer flash hole de-burring tool. What am I forgetting here for tools? BOOKS!!!! you want at least one reloading book from a bullet manufacturer and one from a powder manufacturer. I have Hornady 8th edition, Lyman 49th edition, HODGDEN, IMR & Winchester powders handbook, and more.... This will all add up real quick!!!!!
  16. OOOOooooooohhhh that one <laughs> <lmao> <thumbsup>
  17. And what is your forum? I want to go see.... But eh,, I dunno what gives Thursday night. Maybe peeps tired by then, or wives pissed by then after the first half of week being ignored.

    brass

Hi Mark, and welcome to the forum. I have only used Winchester, Hornady Match & Nosler Custom which is more expensive than Lapua. The Nosler I save for I special time I guess, this weekend was special and I lost 3 of them in grass in mountains, UGGG!!! that is truly upsetting to lose your cherished brass, it was only once fired. The winchester gets most the punishment. On the more hotter charges around book max for my powders some get stretched primer pockets and I have to toss them. For Winchester, the last time I bought from Midway some weeks ago it was 18.49 a 50 count bag. I bought 3 bags and I should have bought twice that much. Now they on back order. Hornady Match is pretty good and cheaper than Nos & Lapua. You can find large quantity for very cheap, nice once fired Lake City, use your browser. I really should do that too.
  19. It was the Appropriations Commity that shot it down. I guess they not dumb and realized the enormity of enfcorcing such a bogus law should it be passed. There are millions of such long arms in the state of Kalifornistan that this proposed law would have effected. AND there would have been trouble..... TROUBLE!!! >:(
  20. Looks badass, Jimmy!! Your parts list is very impressive. Looking forward to when you start shootin'. What/who's ammo will you be using for break in? <munch>
  21. seasprite, I was reading here thru your thread again. How long is your barrel? Can't find where you say so.... Thanks!!
  22. My buddy moved to Hawaii years ago. He gave me his Sig P226 since he couldn't have it there. That's what he said anyway, I dunno about the gun restrictions there but I'm sure it's even worse than here in Kalifornistan.
