So federal elections up here are a bit different. The first big difference is no fixed election date, but must hold an election within 5 years of last election. So Trudeau( aka the turd) the prime minister dissolved parliament 2 weeks ago and called an election for Sept 21st. basically 23 month after the previous election.
- side note, in 2015 Liberals won with 184 seats( majority) but in 2019 election were down to 157 seats( minority)
2nd big difference here is there are 3 main federal parties, a 4thfederal party that only runs in Quebec, and a couple fringe parties.
3rd big difference we do not vote directly for our prime minister.
So when the election was announced( after Liberals threw around LOTS of money first) their polling was pretty high at approx. 35% with the Conservatives at 28%. It's pretty obvious that the Libs were trying to get a majority even though things were getting done in parliament and no need for an election.
There has been a backlash to calling an unneeded election so 2 weeks into the election all the polls while not agreeing have the Conservatives gaining and now ahead of the Libs.
- Libs have been called out by all for calling an unnecessary election an during a pandemic
-Libs gave no believable reason for calling the election, didn't even have an election platform
- Libs dropped the ball on the Afghanistan (example they told people to wear something red when going to airport to identify themselves in the crowd)
- senior Lib called out by Twitter for posting false, altered video attacking Conservative leader
- Libs have been playing catch up with policy to the point of borrowing from other two parties and even now promising things that they recently voted against.
So fingers crossed 3.5 weeks to go and if the momentum keeps up my ARs will be allowed out and no longer on house arrest
