  1. Gold Medal Match is indeed the gold standard. When I first started shooting, I was getting errant results as to whom/what was responsible for my inconsistent shot placement. I quit buying cheapo ammo @ Walmart and started buying FGMM, and I eliminated the ammo entirely from the equation. Now I'm shooting much better, and starting to experiment with different match ammunition from various manufacturers.
  2. I know where you're coming from, for certain. I'm getting into reloading as a result of the cost of commercial ammo, and the need to fine tune my ammo for the best accuracy.
  3. Charitable donations are a sort of rarity here... Somebody out of the kindness of their heart will send Tom a gas tube roll pin occasionally... <laughs> However, malicious enabling of uncontrollable spending, is highly common. It's a way of life here, you'll get used to it... <thumbsup>
  4. I meant to reply to this sooner, but somebody drooled all in my keyboard and I had to clean it up first. <laughs> Very nice rifle brother, well done! <thumbsup>
  5. Based on your description so far, you seem headed in the right direction. Check out the JP Rifles LMOS carrier and captured buffer spring when you get the chance. That could possibly save you some weight as well.
  6. That depends on what you want to accomplish. What is the intended purpose of this rifle? Welcome to the forums by the way.. <thumbsup>
  7. Their adjustable gas block for large frame ARs has a great reputation, it's a must have if you run a suppressor. It's a switchblock-style gas block that looks a little bulky, but it does the job.
  8. I'm dying to shoot it brother, next week can't arrive soon enough!
  9. Reviewed. Thanks again Roger, this is top notch gear!
  10. I'm afraid you've walked into a giant nest of large-frame AR enthusiasts with your question, and by far the majority of experience here has been to the contrary of what you're describing. It would be a little easier to address your issues though if they were described in a little more detail. Having said that, welcome to our forums, I think your time spent here will be very enjoyable. There's a wealth of information here on the forums, and a helpful, practical attitude is prevalent throughout. Enjoy!
  11. Get the DPMS receiver claw right off the bat, upper and lower. When you work on stuff, have it fixed securely, makes your job 10x easier. Roll pin punches are useful, get yourself a nice set of allen wrenches in a folding style tool. After that, go with whatever tools might be specific to your rifle.
  12. I have a BAD lever on it's way. Thanks again roger, you guys are awesome!!!
  13. First off, welcome to the forums. The answer to both questions is a resounding yes. I think you'll have no problem finding fine optics in the $500 range. Just prepare for the flood of possibilities that's about to overwhelm you.... <thumbsup>
  14. I'll take a rain check, much appreciated thought.
  15. Sounds awesome, what time do I need to be there?
  16. Amen to this... A trust is ideal for a whole host of reasons... (Haha, I said "host"..) No fingerprints, no sign-off, no background check (by local LEAs anyways), and some more that I'm definitely forgetting. The extra expense of having an NFA trust specially made will pay off with every successive NFA purchase you ever make, and it's just a good life decision as well to have a will and trust written up. In brief, go the trust route, you'll thank yourself later.
  17. Well, I can answer the first question.... ~7 months from the Form 4 mailing to the suppressor being in hand.
  18. That sounds pretty awesome. Have done this with chickens on camp outs, but didn't know it worked for something as big as a turkey too. Do you put a rub on 'em or anything?
  19. Good deal brother, I just got my suppressor in on the 7th, ordered in back in February. I'm excited about shooting it, can't wait. As for the LW barrel, I haven't heard anything in a month or so, so I have no idea what it's status is... It's hard to invest 2 years and $450 worth of waiting into a barrel, and then not get it.... At the same time, I could get an equal or probably superior barrel in far less time for the same money, so something's gonna give, or else.
  20. We'll be joining my family for our traditional Thanksgiving dinner, ie. eat way too much, laugh a lot, and then go home to fall asleep early. By the way, the edit was to correct for your question "What are you going for Thanksgiving?". <thumbsup>
  21. I need to talk to somebody about getting one, it's the only thing the "Beast" is currently missing.....
  22. Well, Christmas time's a-comin, and Steve and Ops Inc both are clearly very busy, which is I think, a reflection on their reputation for good service. So rather than annoy them, I've taken my measurements and requirements to my local machine shop which is less than 5 miles away. They are really nice, really interested folks who are laughing behind their mitts because they get to make me wait a whole week for it.... <laughs> I foresee them getting a lot of my business in the future. ;D
  23. Thanks Jon, that's all good and useful information, and spot on as to what I'm looking for... I've already located Boyd's stocks and I'm thinking walnut would be a mighty fine addition to the project, but we will see.
  24. Well, for quite some time now I've been looking for a Mauser action to blueprint, true the action, rebarrel, and outfit with a custom stock. I'm in the process of purchasing a barreled Mauser action with action, bolt, trigger assy, and floorplate. I don't really know the condition of the barrel yet, probably doesn't matter, I intend to rebarrel it anyways as part of the rebuild. I'm curious as to who knows what here about the Mauser and what I'm getting myself into here. Any and all ideas/suggestions/trivial knowlege/important thing to know, all input is welcome here. I'm asking for a total education about the Mauser, GO!
