I have many, many friends that own CNC machines... ;D

Tenn. weapons manufacturer faces charges

You know Colt wants it, just for the .mil contracts Sabre already holds. Smart move on Colt's part, and they have the money to pull it off. -
This is where I grabbed all my machining programs for AR-15 uppers and lowers. Great bunch of people. <thumbsup>

And this was THE set I wanted to use for my first .308 AR build... DNP was set to talk me out of it before I went to a gunshow - that had a great deal on the DPMS set. I was supposed to call DNP prior to buying the DPMS parts, because he knew how bad I wanted the IRA setup. I didn't call him, bought the stuff I bought - and I'm damn glad now that I'm not pissed off at IRA for something like this... I wish you luck, my friend. They need to make this right, and not blow smoke up your ass about it.

The Bushmaster lower on your gun is made by DPMS. Fixed trigger guard. No replacement. The MOE grip on it will give you the exact same fitment as the MIAD grip. It'll look like this when installed: It's real easy to flush that grip into the lower, with a little patience and some handy Dremel work. You can get it looking like this: Details here: http://308ar.com/forum/index.php/topic,130.0.html Set-screw your takedown pin hole for the MagPul grips, either MOE or MIAD. <thumbsup>

I like that the prototype is wearing the BAD-ASS 45-degree throw safety selector. <thumbsup>

What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Range, power, weapons-platform fundamentals, and commonality of ammo I need to keep on hand. Logical progression with the amount of AR (15s) that I already have, and I'm not stocking a different round that I already have on hand for the bolt gun. It just makes sense to me to have a .308 AR. .45 ACP, 5.56mm and .308 Win are about all I need, minus the small stash of 9mm I need to run one gun. -
Wyoming adopts constitutional carry

Great for those residents - let it spread like wildfire, throughout the country. <thumbsup> -
I'm pretty sure it's freefloat only for that, but it's identical to the stock OEM Armalite nut of similar design/dimensions/outer diameter. That one I reference from Troy has the wrench flats, too, but only two flats - you wouldn't be rounding any corners on that thing. ;D
-
If it's an Armalite gas system that you'll run, it'll be designed on an Armalite-type barrel probably. Armalite-type barrels will probably have Armalite barrel extensions on them. Don't mix that type barrel extension with a DPMS bolt. My $0.02 there. If you can contact you're you're having build your barrel, and have them (definitely) use a DPMS barrel extension for the build, then you'd have no troubles at all running a DPMS bolt with it. I'd send them the bolt you plan on using before they build your barrel - then can test headspace with your specific bolt before the barrel ever ships out to you. <thumbsup>

Illinois FOID card holders' privacy bill loses vote
98Z5V replied to ArmaLite's topic in General Discussion
rmart, that ^^^ up there just shows how stupid lawmakers are. If I understand that right, if you're an IL Res, you have to have a FOID card just to buy ammo as your corner (gun) store. If you're a Res of the surrounding states, you can walk right in, no FOID card, buy ammo, and leave - no check, besides a residency check, basically. That's dumb as hell, and it's some lawmakers fault. ??? Don't discount Arizona, brother. It might be all brown down here, and there might be a recent shithead that really messed things up here, but it's still a great state for a gun owner to live in. I moved back here just for that reason. <thumbsup> I'm just sayin'... <dontknow> ;D -
Troy Industries does the same exact same thing, but I don't know if their DPMS barrel nut is available for separate purchase. It's made for the Troy MRF-308 rail. Basically, the nut is an "option" that you can buy for that specific rail, when you buy the rail. The rail will direct-mount onto an Armalite AR-10 stock barrel nut - if you happen to have a DPMS .308 gun, you buy the Troy barrel nut with the rail. The exterior of that nut is identical to an Armalite nut, but obviously it's threaded for DPMS threads. Possibly an option, if someone wanted to contact Troy Ind about it, and if you were looking for any other rail for your DPMS that is only made for direct-mount onto an Armalite nut. <thumbsup>

Gonna be a hard weight to hit, even with a shorter barrel. No way will it work out to 11# with a 24" barrel. This thing is an 18.5" medium contour barrel, and it's 12.75 pounds without the bipod attached - gun only.

Does anybody have one of these DPMS SASS gas blocks that would part with it for a week, so it could be measured out? Or, does anybody need one of these things, and they're willing to buy it from me - if I'd order one, measure it, then send it out to you? Either way will let me get the internal dimensions from the block. <thumbsup>
-
Two or three thousandths (0.002~0.003") difference in the taper would do it, and that wouldn't be visible without some precision measuring tools. I've got all kinds of measuring devices, if you want to send that gas block to me. I'll whip up a detailed writeup with pics on the little monster.
-
When they first unveiled their SASS rifle, I saw alot of print about the special features. One of the things they touted was a "tapered gas block attachment." They don't pimp that so much anymore, but I still don't know what's "tapered" about it. I'd imagine that if the gas block inn er diameter has taper to it, the barrel would have to have that same taper to lock up tight. Drew, was there anything "tapered" about the setup you picked up, either on the barrel or gas block?

LR308 Extractor spring upgrade
98Z5V replied to oadad's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Are you looking for Armalite parts (AR-10), or are you looking for DPMS parts (LR308B)? Two different categories, so that might be messing up your search results a wee bit. -
It's not really anything against JD - it can happen to any manufacturers that are making CNC guns and parts. A few thousandths too wide across or lengthwise on the magwell is probably all it would take. I still wonder if it was tolerance stacking as the primary issue with what we saw here on the Iron Ridge gun that was eating it's own buffer. <dontknow>
-
I've used them both, and like them both. My Kimber came with the Mepro's, and I have noticed that they haven't changed in low light in the last 4 years. I've used some old Trijicons (age unknown on them) that seemed "not as bright..."
-
We'll continue to see things like this in the .308 AR platform, simply because there is no real standard to follow for the design. That sucks, but it's true and it'll keep happening. Also, tolerance stacking - dimensions for certain parts will have a few thousandths of an inch tolerance one way or the other, and still be within spec. Combine some parts that are a few thou one way (large side or small side of the spec), and you'll have parts that won't work together. That happens throughout the industry.

Exactly how I view each day. <thumbsup> Life's journey is NOT about arriving at the grave peacefully in a well-preserved body; but rather to skid in sideways, worn out and beaten, shoutin' HOLY SHAT what a ride!!!!! 8)

I like your sig line. <thumbsup> Class 11-90.
-
I think the issue might be the combination. DPMS SASS and a non-SASS barrel (the Fulton). I'm pretty sure that if you're using DPMS SASS barrels, the only thing that's gonna fit will be a DPMS SASS gas block - and vice versa. Those DPMS SASS-specific parts aren't gonna combine with anything else out there, and nothing is gonna combine with them. I run a PRI gas block on my Fulton barrel (both are .936" parts) and there's no issue. What fulton Criterion barrel do you have that's .750" ? Is that the CroMoly lightweight one?
-
So, this would be more of a JD Machine Tech fail, than a Magpul LR20 fail. <dontknow> The mags are more than perfect in my DPMS, and alot of other designs/lowers out there. I'm just sayin'...
