  1. For most things that we do with the BATFE, we use two different forms - Form 1 and Form 4. Form 1: YOU are the "manufacturer." You put together your own SBR, SBS, whatever, from other manufacturers ready-made parts. Example: Buy anything you want for parts for an AR15, including a short barrel, and "manufacture" your own Short Barreled Rifle (SBR). This requires a Form 1 to the BATFE for Tax Stamp approval and receipt of the Tax Stamp. Once you receive that Tax Stamp, you can assemble your SBR, in this example. There are a couple other things involved, including engraving the lower with "Manufacturers" info - YOUR info. Form 4: Let's keep on the SBR example here. You want to buy a full Colt 12.5" barreled AR15. That's a NFA item, and a Short Barreled Rifle. You order it, get it's serial number, and put that information on your Form 4 and send it in to the BATFE. It gets shipped from the manufacturer (Colt), to your FFL Dealer. It sits there until you receive your BAFTE approval and the tax stamp. At that point, Tax Stamp in hand, you go to your dealer and fill out the 4473 and pick up your factory SBR. Form 1 - you're the manufacturer. Form 4 - the factory is the manufacturer. Suppressors are manufactured by the companies, and require a Form 4, unless you're making one from scratch, on your own. 2. Wait... Respectable people, or the magwell grip?... <lmao>
  3. I don't think it's necessarily a mag problem, but a machining problem with the uppers. Or lowers. Height-over-bore kinda thing. Uppers are being machined with the bolt carrier circumference too high, over the top of the mag, or the lower-to-upper stack height is being machined too high. There's no standard to follow for machining these rifles. Nobody follows a "set" set of plans during machining. When we combine different uppers and lowers, the true flaws come out. With guns having bolt over run problems in .308, that's the first thing I think of. Different uppers and lowers combined, and the machining differences between the two companies isn't even compatible - because they're all doing what they want to do. What upper does CMMG recommend using? Does that upper run with Pmags? Now, I'm not defending Pmags here, I'm just trying to think of ideas that might lead to the real issue. There are so many guns that Pmags run perfectly fine in - mostly uppers and lowers from teh same company, though. Just a thought... <dontknow>
  4. Oly, I'm just south of you, in Sierra Vista. I'l install an adjustable gas block for you. Pick one up and let me know when you want to do it. Cool places to shoot down here, too. <thumbsup>
  5. SO, last weekend we go back out there. I've got a couple Army buddies in town, so I take a bunch of guns with me so they can shoot. I took the .308 out there so I could shoot, but that's what the other two guys were all over (with the 20" 5.56 gun). My son is busy loading the CMMG .22 mags again - doing much better, I might add - and tightening up his shooting on it. Very good. Well, he wanted on the .308 at the end of the range session. It's got the 2lb Jard trigger in there, and even though he did alright with that trigger in the 20" gun, I didn't trust his trigger control with the .308. I loaded one round per mag for him. <dontknow> I already warned him ahead of time about the recoil. He shot the .22 a TON, then he thought the recoil from 5.56 was really something. Compared to the .22. I talked to him abaout the .308, and he saw us shoot it, and he wanted a go at it. Now, he's 14, 5-foot 4-inches, and 102lbs... He ain't Ah-nold... <laughs> One round in the mag, he fires... OOOOOOWWWW!!! AGAIN! Right on, boy. <thumbsup> Here's the first shot from it (first pic) ...then his face when the "OOOOOOWWW!!!" came out... <lmao> Tomorrow, we shoot my new .45... <thumbsup>
  6. So, two Sundays ago, I take the kid to the local range. Goes out to 600 yards. Started him out on the M4 with CMMG .22LR bolt. He put 300 rounds out there, swiss-cheesed his target, and really took to the fundamentals well. I'm happy. So, I've got the 14.5" gun and the 20" precision gun, both 5.56. He wants to shoot the 14.5 gun. Well, alright. <thumbsup> I had him loading his own mags the whole day, and loading into CMMG .22 mags sucks. He got that quick. He kinda liked loading 5.56 into the 20-rd Pmags, so I let him shoot the 14.5 gun - and he did well. Now, in the meantime, I'm on the 20" gun. I started at the 100yd target to confirm zero, and it's on. I go to the 200, 300, 400 - spent some time on holdovers on the 400 - then the 500 and 550. The kid is watching through the spotting scope... ;D I loaded up the only 40 rounds of Black Hills 77gr SMK that I had, and I transitioned to the 600yd target. I ripped that damn thing apart. Slayed it. Just using holdovers and not playing with scope adjustments, I hit over 30 of the 40 on steel. The kid was freaking out... :o He wanted on the 20" gun. I put him in there with some 68gr AMAX, and he was on the 100 and 200, but didn't hit the 300 at all. I told him to be patient, and he couldn't understand using holdovers for range. We went back last weekend... ;D
  7. Eh, that's Drew - he's fast to get all excited and fire one off... <lmao>
  8. Jgun, from what it looks like right now, I'll be leaning more towards this one, the 300BLK over the x40WT cartridge. The barrel specs you mentioned are only one of the reasons. I need to wait and see what other companies come up with for barrels before I plunge right into that one, that's for sure. For suppressor use, I could load some subsonic x40WT, but even Wilson is directly telling people that if suppressed is primarily what you want, you're better off using the BLK cartridge over their x40WT. That's pretty cool, and very honest of them, right up front. What I'm probably going to do is build this up as a 300BLK rifle, get everything settled on it, and pick up a x40WT barrel down the road. Someone, somewhere will figure out the x40WT magazine issue, and it'll probably be an easy modification. I'd need to mock load up some actual ammo and play with magazines to try to figure it out on my own, find the restriction, figure out a mod for it - and I'm not sure if I'd want to commit to the reloading tools right away just to do that. Once it gets solved, I'll probably be in that. Now, for the bad news I found out for myself... the lower I wanted to use for this rifle build is already (only) marked Cal: 5.56mm. I'm screwed for using that lower... >:(
  9. (excerpt) PHOENIX - A proposal to let people have guns while driving or walking through state university and community college campuses cleared its final hurdle in the Arizona Legislature on Thursday. The House passed the bill on a 33-24 vote, which will send it to Gov. Jan Brewer. The Senate previously approved the measure, after watering it down to no longer allow guns inside campus buildings. But the bill still sparked sharp debate before Thursday's House vote. Full Story, so far: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/04/08/arizona-lawmakers-ok-allowing-guns-campus/
  10. I need to start paying greater attention to all this. Made up my mind tonight that I'm either doing this cartridge or the 7.62x40 WT cartridge. I want it suppressed, so I'm probably going with this one. It's a sickness... <dontknow> <laughs>
  11. ^^^ That's for a combat or defensive gun, and that's absolutely correct. Get it out of the way as fast as you can. Now, if your rifle is for hunting deer, and your primary optics get damaged, and you quickly need to get your backup sights deployed for your own safety... Then suspect Foul Play. <lmao>
  12. Cam pin won't go in the bolt from the other side. Well, at least not on the AR-15. The hole is smaller on the other side of that thing. If the cam pin does go in there, that's not a mil-spec bolt, or it's already a lefty.
  13. New CMMG Ambidextrous Modular Upper Reciever As a part of the all new Revolution series of firearms, we are proud to introduce our patent pending ambidextrous modular upper receiver. The advantage of the Revolution upper is the ability to change panels on both left and right sides to customize the firearms to suit the shooters needs. Panel configurations include: •Right hand panel with dust cover, shell deflector and forward assist. •Right hand panel with dust cover and shell deflector, no forward assist. •Right hand panel, smooth •Right hand panel with forward assist •Left hand panel with dust cover, shell deflector and forward assist. •Left hand panel with dust cover and shell deflector, no forward assist. •Left hand panel, smooth •Left hand panel with forward assist Many combinations are possible by mixing and matching panels. CMMG Revolution rifles will be available with forward assist notches on both sides of the carrier. Right hand shooters who tap the forward assist prior to shooting, now have the option to have the forward assist on the non ejection port side. This makes for a faster reload since the shooter right hand does not need to leave the pistol grip. This can be reversed for lefties. Shooters needs vary and change. By moving panels around, any configuration is possible within minutes. Our target price will be $135 with two panels. We will also be offering a full set of panels that include the ones listed above and a couple others. These will be available in whatever the color of the month happens to be. In the next few weeks we will be introducing our new Revolution hand guard, ambi and lower. We are very excited about this project. We believe this will set a new standard and versatility and affordability. Uppers are extruded 7075 aluminum. Hopefully, this is fully patented by CMMG. <thumbsup>
  14. Gas on a pistol cartridge? That should be cool. <thumbsup>
  15. There are a few more rails out there now, but it's catching them in stock somewhere that might be the challenge. Troy, Daniel Defense (when you can find someone that's got the DPMS barrel nut in stock), SWS I think, and a few more. Just make sure you're searching for something that's DPMS compatible, because the Armalite compatible rails won't work on DPMS receiver threading. Length will be up to what you're looking for, really. The Troy MRF-308 rail is 13.8 inches long, and it will fully cover a short low profile gas block on a rifle-length gas system. Not quite sure on your 18" SASS barrel, but doesn't it use mid-length gas? Trigger: there are so many good ones out there, that it's hard to recommend. That might come down to "who has what on sale" at the time of your quest. Base and ring mounts: people don't watch this one enough: The Armalite one-piece scope mount. You can find that thing cheap all over the place, and they make it in 1" rings and 30mm rings. Before you make a choice, look at that one. Definitely use a one-piece mount, preferrable something that doesn't require tools to install/remove (once you get the scope mounted in the mount, that is). Bipod: GG&G. HD-XDS. Straight from GG&G. http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=220&parents=49
  16. You guys aren't serious, are you? Plastic guide rod comes stock?!!? I fired a Glock once, and I don't even remember what model or caliber it was - that bullpoopy trigger thing and my first round was enough to make me realize I'd never, ever want to shoot a Glock again. Talk about Recoil Anticipation - no way around it, for me, with that trigger. Straight into the dirt. One shot, one "never again with this gun..." <dontknow> Daddy No Like... :o <dontknow>
  17. Are you serious, brother?... :o That borders on "damn scary..."
  18. I'm definitely happy that you combined those two parts together on your upper build. I only know of one other gas block that's compatible with that barrel, for definite. Good parts combination. <thumbsup> And, welcome aboard... ;D Pardon my lack of information - Paladin Machine is the only other manufacturer that I know of that makes a compatible gas block for the DPMS SASS barrel. The Paladin Machine gas block is adjustable. Google the information on that company, and their SASS gas block, because it's hard to find right now.
  19. I sure hope that Freedom Group is incapable of acquiring EITHER of those companies. I hope they can both resist. :-[
  20. Same thing happens to me every time I visit Cabela's - ANY Cabela's... <lmao> I start browsing the ammo section with a handbasket, then realize that's stupid, and pick up the dry storage can. Then it's cans. Then it's cans in a push cart... If I ever saw cases upon cases of Mk262, I'd sell my truck in the parking lot, buy all that ammo and backpacks, then start walking home... <laughs> <thumbsup>
  21. Just saw the fishing thread... Damn You, Bass Pro! <lmao> Damn straight! It's the "I have SO many things on my Want List..." versus the "I haven't won the lottery yet..." fundage issue. <dontknow> <laughs>
  22. <lmao> Now I know what you're talking about... <laughs>
  23. <laughs> That's damn funny! Now that you're feeling jovial, maybe you won't mind this statement... Funds for this little beauty came from my .338LM stockpile... :o That's a setback. <dontknow>
  24. Drew, the only two differences I'm seeing between your big brother and mine are: - Mine doesn't have serrations on the front of the slide, only rear (you have both) - Mine doesn't have a rail (I'm rail-less, you're railed...) The size difference, too - your's is bigger... <laughs>
