wetncold
That should tie a knot in your guts. Might also turn several organs unside down. I can hear the Geneva Convention pukes yelling already.

guruofhotrod
Hmmm "green ammo" not to be confused with "green tip" this stuff has no lead in it.Looks like they began issuing it to our troops on mid 2010 - here's a great article from "American Rifleman" that was published in May/2014http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2014/5/21/testing-the-army-s-m855a1-standard-ball-cartridge/
guruofhotrod
Damn, I linked the same article that MikedaddyH referenced cept his link went to a search? oh wellI did get a kick out of this part though - "A related factor was the physiology of Afghan Taliban and Iraqi insurgents. Usually malnourished, their torsos are only about 7.5-inches thick, while the older M855 projectile often penetrated, “up to 7 inches before beginning to yaw, and will already have exited the body before yaw or fragmentation occur.” According to published standards, the new cartridge is designed to yaw no more than 3 inches beyond the impact point, producing a temporary cavity diameter of 4 to 6 inches and minimum penetration depth of 12 inches, and to do that consistently." NTXshooter
Looked like the copper jacket completely separated from the core. Also, what was the flash when the wound channel collapsed the first time?

survivalshop
The flash & smoke , the smoke was like it was smoking a cigarette . Unless they shot that Gelatin with the Barrel almost touching ( which we didn't see in the video ) something had to burn or explode in the test media . beantown
I also want to know what went "bang" inside the gel.
jtallen83
The Germans and the Soviets had exploding rifle bullets in WWII, German B Patrone and Soviet PZ. Hard to believe the US would be doing that but it sure looks like it blew up inside the gel????https://www.full30.com/video/82efb579fd3c93d177205966ef3d3c9d
Matt.Cross
I forget where I read it now, but it has been suggested that the fat in the gelatin was liquefied, heated, compressed, and ignited by the bullet impact.
Dane Armory
The Russian and Germans really hated each other to use this on the enemies as sniper ammo.

Dane Armory
It's like a rafos round. Exploding tank and aircraft ammo used as tracer spotting round. Edited January 4, 2016 by Dane Armory
planeflyer21
More fat in a human. Hmm does that mean an even bigger bang when it hits? #thatsgunnahurtMe thinks that those soviet and German soldiers weren't carrying too much body fat.Makes sense but I don't recall seeing this before and I've watched a ton of slow motion gelatin tests, something is different with this bullet but what? Near the beginning of the video they show a cutaway photo of these bullets. Also, it isn't gelatin but soap. The Russian soviet leaders and Germans really hated each other to use this on the enemies as sniper ammo.Karl and Ian touch on how the Germans didn't use these bullets against non-soviet allies but not (even said they weren't sure) why.The reason was this: Joseph Stalin gave total disregard the Hague and Geneva limitations on warfare or "guidelines on humane warfare" that Russia had signed. The USSR did in fact start the use of "inhumane war" during WWII. Germans only retaliated in kind, to a new nation (the USSR) that refused to fight by gentlemenly standards.IIRC Stalin made "not following the rules of war" the standard when the USSR was playing their part in the invasion of Poland. Taking a cue from the red revolution, Stalin ordered the execution of multitudes of Polish officers and had them buried in mass graves. This war crime was reported to the world, ironically by the Germans, after the pact with the USSR fell apart and Hitler went ahead and took the other half of Poland.Total power corrupts totally: follow the history of the socialists, from Lenin, Stalin, and Mao, to Pol Pot and that Cuban commie. survivalshop
I forget where I read it now, but it has been suggested that the fat in the gelatin was liquefied, heated, compressed, and ignited by the bullet impact. I too have watched many slow motion tests & have never sen anything like that . The new bullet make up / speed of the bullet may cause such effects , just seems to me , it looked like an explosion in that Test Medium . Learn something new every day around here , that explosive charged ammo from WWII is really something .

slugger43
So we need a bullet that will accurately and reliably punch 1/4" steel, and still prove consistently lethal on a "teeny-tiny-torsoed Taliban-y". Anybody ready to just stop screwing with teeny bullets and try a different caliber/rifle/bullet combination? 6.8 SPC? Or, gee, maybe something in .308 win/7.62x51? I'm guessing those of us on this forum might be able to show them some nice examples/samples/suggestions..... So far, the fookers haven't asked me for my opinion....Surprise! Possibly because I'm not a committee that makes a poor decision after years of "planning and research".
