CrashOverRide.308
Anyone here from Colorado? The wife and I plan on moving from Alaska to Colorado. What are their gun laws there? I read quite a few only about their handguns but no rifles. Are ARs restricted? Magazine restrictions on both handgun and rifle? I read it's ok to open carry but require a permit if concealed. Alaska is different. No capacity. No permits to conceal or open. Any insight would be great.
shepp
Think it's 10 rounds all around I know I looked into this when I traveled thru there a year and a half ago. I brought ten round ar mags with me just to be safe Co would be last on my list I think unless I had a health issue. I found this site posted up in the traveling with arms post very helpful http://www.handgunlaw.us/ Edited November 7, 2016 by shepp

98Z5V
I wouldn't move to Colorado if you paid for my move and gave me a $100k/yr job. MagPul LEFT Colorado after the fukkin' granola-cruchin' Californians moved there years ago,and fukked it all up. Passed laws, etc. MagPul left, and got back on the safe side of the DMZ. No way would I live there. You can have that liberal schithole.
mrmackc
My wife's brother that lived in a condo in Denver died in Dec. 2014 and we had to go up there to probate his will. We found that you have to hire Colorado lawyers to probate the will and pay all the fees and taxes, it was a pain in the butt. Every bus stop around the area was blue with crappy looking folks smokeing weed. There was a Neighborhood Walmart within a block and I went in and bought some groceries. noticed a short line and got in line, then I noticed it was for Muslins, Muslin lady in full garb (face was visable) tending the checkout. I stayed inline and emptied my basket with a package of Oscar Mayer honey Deli ham. She was a local Caucasian married to a Arab. I asked for paper , she said "We only have plastic sir, are you from Texas I said "yep!" she was really nice, "I said thank you miss." My brother in law was gay and he loved Denver, he worked for Charles Swabb. My wife sold the Condo. and we gave away all of his T.Vs and stereo and computers to his friends and neighbors. The condo sold the second day it was listed. Denver is really a good place to SELL! We said Thanks folks and au-di-oce! We used to camp and hunt in Colorado back in the 70s and 80s but it is a lot different now. Colorado was in my Territory to work back in the 1990s and it was okay back then, but not now for me. One of our RSOs is Colorado born and raised. He used to guide lion hunts with his Dad growing up. Said the last time he was up there (many years ago now) he would never go back. "Damn hippies!" EngrBob
Lived in Colorado in the 80s and it was great until the California rejects started to arrive. Still have a college roommate who lives there and still likes it but he is retired Air Force (full colonel) and lives in a neighborhood that is almost all retired military. He says the slums of Denver and some of the mountain areas are going downhill fast because of the drugs. Texas is a better choice, and has much milder winters. Armed Eye Doc
I've only been to Colorado a few times. It was nice for a change of scenery, but I would not want to live there. The nontourist towns we went through were drab and appeared to be pot centered. It may have changed but the magazine capacity was 15 the last time I was there. I, for one, would welcome you and your family to Texas. It would be a welcome change from the California transplants that are moving in. EngrBob
I believe new magazines are limited to 15 although magazines owned prior to the ban are grandfathered in Colorado. I believe the magazine capacity limitation applies to all firearms, including handguns.

EngrBob
If you like mountains, try the area around Alpine - Marfa - Fort Davis. This is an area about 3 to 3.5 hours east of El Paso and about the same west of San Antonio. Elevations are around 5,000-feet with mountains around in the 7,000 to 7,500 range. The area is a bit greener and more heavily wooded, particularly north of Alpine, than most of west Texas.

And if I'm not wrong, the county that Alpine is in is actually a red county as opposed to El Paso which went blue. Please correct me Bob if I am wrong. EngrBob
Correct, both Brewster and Jeff Davis counties (Alpine and Fort Davis) were red but Marfa is in Presidio County (where Scalia died) was blue by a couple of votes. Just in case you haven't looked, Houston to Denton is about as far away as LA to Las Vegas. That is a rough estimate of miles from looking at a map and doesn't account for traffic in either area. Texas is big and distances can be deceiving.
