Rsquared Posted April 13, 2019 Report Share Posted April 13, 2019 Alright ladies. For any of you bastards that think that us control/automation guys only work with our laptops. Suck on it. So, we're getting close to finishing our re-fit of the chiller plant in the NOAA headquarters here in Silver Spring MD. It's been 3 months so far, and we're probably looking at about another month to finish things up completely (before getting rushed off to the next one). For the size of building that it is, the mechanical system is pretty basic for a commercial office building. Theose new chillers in the pictures though are pretty sweet (as far as chillers go). They're the oil-less type with magnetic bearings. Those fukers are pretty quiet (relatively), even when running under a heavy load. Anyway, here's a quick rundown. A view trying to catch most of the mechanical room: A reverse look back at the chillers: A shot of the primary condenser and chilled water pumps: The custom built control panel that I fabricated, wired and programmed. We're still not done, like I said, so it's not all cleaned up yet. : A closer look at the panel : A panel that we installed to control a $hit load of 2 position, line voltage valves. We open and close the valves (obviously) as well as monitor their position. : A closer look at that same relay panel. I custom built this panel on site also, besides the main control panel. It's also not 100% complete yet. It should get wrapped up early next week, and then all of the wire-trough covers will be cut and snapped into place. That'll clean the whole look of it up. : So.....don't always laugh at us control fuks. Some of us actually run the conduit, hang the panels, build the panels, pull the wiring and terminate the wiring as well as doing the programming. It was ugly. Total bs over a project that meant nothing. Not to mention the information he shared was open to the internet if one knew what to search for. shepp Posted April 13, 2019 Report Share Posted April 13, 2019 Company tech for national chain who’s a complete fuck up “fixed” a leak on a self contained case last week. Sent us out cuz he thought the compressor was shot on the unit. Get there fire it up no movement in the site glass. Put my gages on it it’s flat (no gas) call him ask why it’s flat he says he fixed a leak. Asked how he diagnosed the compressor was bad then, he didn’t know, I charge it and everything’s fine and leave. Get called back this week, it’s flat as fuck find a huge leak in his braze weld. Fix it pull vacuum over night. Get back today and try to charge it. Running high head pressure realize it’s 100° and that’s why it’s so high. Check the heaters in the room, some dumbfuck mounted the t states by the door and they read 53° take 10steps in the room it’s 80. Yeah, I've heard some dumb ass horror stories like that before. But we've gotten permission from that site to pimp the fact that they used our products/company to upgrade their facility in the past. It's documented on our company website, as well as the manufacturer website of the controls themselves (a Canadian group, go figure). We've changed out approximately 1200 VAV's (variable air volume boxes for offices), upgraded their lighting control and most of the mechanical equipment controls in the 3 buildings that they occupy there in Silver Spring over the last couple of years. This is the 2nd of 3 central chiller plants that we've done at this facility, with the 3rd coming later this year (that's what's conflicting with the Wisconsin meet-up for me). Somehow, I'm one of the few (very few) guys with the company capable of taking one of these chiller plants from start to finish. And I'm always willing to help you out wherever I can brother. The only one that was raped during a leak was GREG, when I set the .22-cal perimeter trap, and he walked right into it - BANG! You and I - we need to introduce more people to the Cholla cactus. I can't BELIEVE how many people have been out here, and they don't even know what the look like yet. Long walks in the moonlight will do the trick, too - hence the "Full Moon Plan" again for this one... We need @shibiwan out here for this shoot, for the full damn time, too.
