Hello from Oregon

Recommended Posts

New member from Eastern Oregon checking in to say hello. I have owned two Armalite AR-10 rifles,  the first being an AR-10T carbine several years ago.  I recently picked up an unfired, ban era AR-10A2 carbine for $500. How could I say no to that? I've been trying to find a B series A4 flat top upper receiver for it, but it seems nearly impossible to find one.  Hoping to learn a bit about this rifle as time allows and wish everybody here well.

Welcome from Iowa, via Missouri!

I would have to grab that myself. When I do find Armalite B model anything the prices are higher than I paid originally, Gunbroker sees them occasionally but I have not been able to get anything there.

Another BIG 10B fan here. 500 is a steal for anything 10B related.

Welcome from Maryland.

It was. I was floored when my Nephew offered it to me.  It was unfired sitting in his Dad's safe for years. Sort of a strange combination.  Stainless barrel with A2 upper. It shoots great though.

Pictures? Maybe a National Match model?

I'll bet it is, with that barrel.

What a great score.  For the upper, try calling Armalite, and talking to them.

Yep, I called Armalite and the gentleman looked up the serial number.  I asked if it had a T model barrel and he said no. Not sure about NM barrel,  though.  I am on a waiting list for notification when or if they make more uppers. The guy I talked with was awesome. Talked for about 20 minutes.  He did say that there were plans to kick out more B series stuff in the future. I certainly hope so.

I will get some photos up tomorrow for you to look at.

If it's a National Match model, that's gonna be marked on their barrel with a "NM" in the barrel specs. Here's an example of the Armalite barrel markings for that:

ARMSLIST - For Sale: SOLD Used Armalite AR-10 National Match with ...

That should be visible without taking anything apart - it's in front of the gas block.

Yep. I've got a 10B A2 carbine from the mid-2000's. I'm still a fan of the original A2 look.

This was after I swapped the original handguards out to one of the Armalite 2-piece rails. I've put it back to the original factory plastic ones since then.

Back to just a plain "factory" battle rifle.

Strange. Mine appears to be a standard stainless barrel.  No visible markings in front of the gas block at all. Not sure if there are any under the Alostyr rails I put on it, but they were a pain to get on.

Did you see any markings at all on it, when you had it apart for the rail install?...

Call him back and ask him what barrel you had installed, per serial number.  They're pretty consistent about where they mark their barrels.

@mrraley, and input on this one, brother?

Think I will call back again tomorrow and confirm.  I had thought it may have been a T series barrel because it looked identical to the 16" T carbine I owned years ago.

Just got off the phone with a guy named Glenn. Very cool guy to talk with.  Unfortunately,  he was not able to find my exact serial number in their old excel data sheets. He estimated my rifle to be a late 90's to very early 2000 model.  He was not sure which barrel it left the factory with when I explained the stainless steel carbine barrel.

For all I know at this point,  it's an oddball. I think I might try taking the rails off this evening to see if I can find any markings on the barrel. Did Armalite ever produce T series barreled A2 carbines? He added that they have several B series lower receivers and he has been pushing for another run of A4 receivers to be made.  He is hoping late summer for release of more of these.
