MA-Ten Multicam Krylon

Recommended Posts

I posted this on SH figured it would be appropriate to post it here as well.

My first attempt @ DIY camo

I traced all the patterns from one section of my Tab Gear shooters mat and tried to lay out the patterns the exact same way on the rifle.

I used 12 colors to try and get it right and lots of polyurethane to finish it off.

Did my own design on the brake, barrel, bipod & bikini covers.

Hunter Green

Italian Olive

Hosta Leaf

Avocado

Almond

Khaki

Sand

Brown

Espresso

Brown Boots

Ballet Slipper Pink

Dark Taupe

Thank you for all the compliments

I keep coming back to this. The work was really done well. It assume you sprayed the parts separately, and then reassembled them when they were dry? Can I ask how long it took? Forgive my ignorance, but what did you coat it with?

For the most part I kept it assembled to make sure the pattern flowed throughout the rifle.

The scope/rings were removed but I kept the scope in the rings/level

Also kept the UBR closed

I did open it and spray it only after the rest of the rifle was complete/dry

I did wrap the barrel/brake in wax paper and put the FFtube back on.

Before I started I already made the decision that the barrel/brake/bipod were going to be some shade or shades of green so I did those last

After everytime I sprayed it I would hit it with a heat gun set on its high setting being

carefull not to keep it to close but I would make sure it got damn hot

Then I would let it dry for at least 5 days and in that time I could lay out the next design in my head.......That was all that was on my mind for a month or so...A little distracting but fun as hell to do.

I used MinWax Fastdrying Polyurethane (black and gold aresol can) for the final finish

I used a whole can just on the FFT and a whole can on the rifle almost a hole can on the

scope and rings and I used alot on the mags as well.

I let all that dry for another 5 days then I assembled it.

I stuffed alot of toilet paper inside to protect the barrel and upper and mag well.

Whatever overspray I got in the magwell was easily removed with Acetone.

The only problem was with the mag release on the left side

It would catch just a bit from the buildup of the polyurethane but that was an easy fix.

A couple light passes with some 200grit and it functions flawlessly.

Anymore questions just ask.

I learned alot from this project I have 2 more projects I plan on doing and they should

look even better.

looks verry intimidating, i like it. iMight get that one for mine too.

does make your "bang" go "BAAAANG!"

It's pretty bad when your muzzle brake causes other people at the range to develop a flinch...  <laughs> I just look at it the other way, once I can overcome flinching with that particular brake, everything else is a piece of cake!  <thumbsup>

That's AWESOME!!

A word of advice though. For at least the metal parts, Testors flat model spray paint baked at 300f for 3 hours is the best bake-on finish for metal parts I've seen before durakote. Even better then Crylon and Rustolium. I would imagine it would work exceptionally well for the furniture as well, having been designed for plastic in the first place. You can get it in a huge variety of colors too.
