alelks
Looks like I'll be getting a couple in the next few years. I was going to get 2 puppies at the same time but came to my senses. I'm going to get 1 at the beginning of the year and get the 2nd one about a year later. This will be a predominately outdoor dog with a radio fence on 3 acres (all grass). I'm going to put in an automatic dog door in one corner of the garage so he can come in and out of the weather at will. In that corner I'm going to build a decent size dog house so he doesn't have full reign of the entire garage. It will of course be heated in the winter (the garage won't be). Of course I plan on giving him TONS and TONS of obedience training.Anyone out there own a Rottweiler? If so do you have some good adivice. I've done quite a bit of research on health problems so I'll DEFINITELY be purchasing from a quality breeder. Of course that comes with a hefty price tag, $1,500 and up. :o
shepp
Great dogs I miss mine. X had one when I first started dating her we got one when I bought my house. They were both big dumb lovers but a stranger would never know. Once and a while the older one would ever get bent outa shape while we were haveing sex thinking I was hurting her. If I were to get another dog any dog it would be another rottie!!!!

Madhouse
We've got two rotties down at the martial arts school, they belong to the chief instructor. These are rotties number four and five for him.Super sweet girls, they all have been. He only gets bitches and so far they've all been great. One of the last pair had blown out a knee and cost a ton of money to keep her going, then had to put them both down due to health within nine months of each other.Lets see some pics of the new pup when you get it. imschur
Never owned a Rottweiler but spend a lot of time with two, Moose and Conan. Great breed. Do your homework on food. See if there's something recommended for the breed. Youll pay more now but you will be thankful on the other the second half of their lives. Blue Buffalo and Wellness are two good ones that come to mind.good luck and keep us updated
alelks
As far as food goes I'm leaning towards getting a really good meat grinder and grinding my own chicken (with bones and without the skin) in order to avoid some of the problems associated with the ingredients in commercial dog foods these days. That and adding in some vegetables for nutritional value. From what I understand dogs have a hard time digesting the skin and it can cause problems. edgecrusher
for commercial foods, we've always used Iams mixed with garden veggies (all dogs love carrots!) and an egg every couple days. I have two pits now, but my father has always had big dogs, currently has two saint bernards, but my favorite were the English Mastiffs. My girl growing up was Sam, and she was 194#'s, and she was smart and strong! make sure you don't work them to hard till they 2 years old, big dogs joints don't really develope as fast as smaller dogs

Thanks,Hell I can barely take time for our annual convention much less take a vacation. Actually our convention is in Orlando this year so the wife and I are going down a few days early and staying a few days late so we're considering that our vacation.I REALLY can see the benefits of a raw diet from what I'm reading. Especially when it comes with no chemicals found in the majority of dog foods. On a side note, you still have time to get out to the sand with us for tday. <thumbsup>

CMAN
My Rottie was a bitch and weight in at 80 lbs. She was lean and very muscular. Raw diet is the best way to go. She was very loving and the most obediant dog I've ever owned! Sure do miss her!
98Z5V
I had a male Rott from a 2 1/2 month pup. Awesome dog, Zeus. <thumbsup>He was 20lbs at 2 1/2 months, and he was always 10lbs for every month old he was. 7 mos - 70lbs, 9 mos - 90lbs. Purebred from German lines. He peaked at 1 year and 105lbs, but was 125lbs at 2 years, and slightly over 150lbs at 3 years old. Trained him young, to protect the ex-wife. At a year old, he could charge me, wrap his front legs around my waist, and put me straight on the ground. I'd turn out all the lights in the house, put him in front of her, and sneak in - his giant ass would turn sideways in front of her, head would go down slightly, and he'd start a low growl. If I kept approaching, he'd put me down.My orange tiger cat Bart would whoop his ass, though... <laughs> I'd say, "Zeus! Get the cat!" He'd look at me like saying, "Really?! I can GET THE CAT?!!?..." He'd rip across the room - cat wouldn't move, mind you - and he'd pin the cat to the floor with one of thoe bigass paws, then turn and look at me... "I did good, right?..." About that time, the cat would slowly stretch his arms up, stick the claws out, and hook Zeus RIGHT in the chops. Of course, the dog would pull back - and set the claws... He'd haul ass straddle-legged through the house, dragging the cat under him, bouncing all over the floor. When the cat got tired, he'd release, then go to sleep where ever he felt like getting off that ride... <lmao>When my son was born, the ex freaked out over Zeus - "He's gonna eat the baby!!!" :o When she wasn't around, I'd bring Zeus over and say "Kiss Jake," and he'd lick the kid all over the face. Jake loved it. The ex saw that, and thought that Zeus was getting a taste for the baby. She wanted to sell the dog, but I ended up giving him away for free, to a family friend I knew back in Ohio. I shipped his heavy ass air freight from Sea-Tac airport to Columbus, Ohio, and paid the shipping bill. It was over $500 to ship that dog. She was LIVID when she found out about it. I toldher I just gave away my best friend. In hindsight, I should have shipped HER ass air freight, to whoever wanted her. We ended up divorced 2 years later. Everytime I visited family I Ohio, I'd stop in and see Zeus. He never did forget who Jake was. <thumbsup>If I ever get another big dog, it'll be another purebred Rottie. shepp
Sound a lot like my boy Hayden Tom, bout 130 lbs when the ex moved and built like a brick poop house. Loyal as hell and stupid happy. Year after she moved out I stopped by to give her son his b-day present and she was afraid the dog was gonna bite me cuz he had had some issues with nipping ( she was lazy on training). I told her just to let him go I wasn't afraid he came running up to me like I just came home from work. I still miss that big dumbie now I got two crazy cats......
