EasyEJL Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 I finally ordered an AR15 lower originally with the plans of a 300 AAC upper. But looking at the 458 socom, that is pretty intriguing too. Is it a bad idea to build just the one lower but have more than 1 upper for it? considering they both use the standard ar15 mags.
Goofball310 Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 Not at all. If I ever get around to it, I plan on building a Noveske Gen 2 lower w/ 4 separate Noveske uppers. 14.5" lightweight 14.5" fluted afghan 16" recon 18" SPR
blue109 Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 You can only shoot one at a time. Find I comfy stock and a trigger you like and call it a day.
imschur Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 How about two lowers, one with a light weight collapsible stock and one with a PRS or equivalent. That will give you balance for any upper you dream of. Dont share BCG's.

98Z5V Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 My opinion is different from those shared so far - If you have a need for a different upper, then you have a need for a whole rifle. <thumbsup>

Microgunner Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 I think it's a good idea. I did it with a pistol.
MaDuce Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 It doesn't really work that way The way it works is you build a dozen uppers for a single lower and a few months later you start down the road of building a dozen lowers for your dozen uppers.
Robocop1051 Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 I wish I had as many lowers as I have uppers!
98Z5V Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 I wish I had as many lowers as I have uppers! I've got you covered, brother. <thumbsup>
survivalshop Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 I kind of have a mixed view on this subject , I have wanted to have multiple uppers for a couple of lowers ,but I too ,like the different rifles . There is on other thing, safety , I built a dedicated 300 BLK rifle with the Tactical Machining lower & upper & stamped that way on the lower , makes you think about not interchanging the wrong ammo in a rifle or just trying to & feeling a dooooooo moment or some thing worse. I do like the idea of it though & the ability to do so.
EasyEJL Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 I figure I can build a 300 how I want it, and pick up a low end 458 socom from era and not bother wit it having its own lower
Powerman Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 I asked the same question. I do not see how having different uppers is a bad thing. I can understand how you just build another rifle, and it may become one. But right now, I just figure a carbine length light upper with a ACOG sight would be cool, and I can also go to a range and reach out and touch some steel.
