Trutracer
Hello Everyone, I am very new to AR 10 type rifles. In fact, In just i picked up my JD Machine Upper and Lower last week. I am in the process of getting all the other parts for my rifle . So any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciate. One question I have is what if any AR 15 parts can be used in a AR 10 built? Best, Trutracer
Robocop1051
Heya Trut, NorCal guy here (Sac Valley). Welcome. What are you lookin to do with your rifle? Hunt? Target? Plinking? Mall Ninja? We all have input on how to spend your money!!! The only .308 specific parts are: A. The take down and pivot pins B. The buffer and buffer spring C. The bolt catch D. The barrel nut and handguards (Magpul MOE handguards can be modified to fit a .308) E. The muzzle device and barrel F. The ejection port cover G. The BCG H. The charging handle
Robocop1051
Small springs, detents, most triggers, the stock assemblies, pistol grips, gas blocks, and selector switches are generally cross platform compatible.
shibiwan
Welcome from AZ! INB4 the enabler says "It's not an AR10 unless it's an Armalite!" ;) General recommendations for almost any 308AR build, especially for precision: Heavy buffer Adjustable gas block Rifle length gas system Free float handguard Anything else? -s Edited October 17, 2013 by shibiwan

DNP
Welcome from SoCal. I will leave the tech stuff to the local guru's who have already chimed in. I only know enough to get into trouble. I also have a JD rig. Check out the PR3 build under the JD section.
EasyEJL
Heavy buffer I may check with you as far as getting an extra heavy one made once I'm putting my .338 federal together :) I think that in a 308 AR particularly, getting the right combo of pistol grip and stock to fit you is more critical. In the AR15 its not as big of a deal, but with the recoil of the 308 it becomes much more important.
FaRKle!
Welcome! If you don't plan on running your gun with the stock as short as possible (think AR-15 fully collapsed) then I'd suggest getting a longer (Armalite or Vltor A5) receiver extension, Armalite AR10 action spring, and just use standard AR-15 buffers. Trutracer
Thank You all for the the Welcome and all the informations on parts. Guys since I have JD receivers what barrel makes are a good fit. Not sure if I am going for a heavy or medium barrel. Looking to make this rifle a mult-purpose rifle. Stay safe everyone, Trutracer

Robocop1051
You can't go wrong with a Fulton Armory barrel. Lots of options available too.
Rsquared
INB4 the enabler says "It's not an AR10 unless it's an Armalite!" ;) Somebody's being a smartass. <laughs> Welcome aboard Trutracer. Don't pay any attention to some of these guys. Their jealousy runs rampant sometimes.

Robocop1051
I. And the magazine release... I thought only Armalite used a specific mag catch? I used a DPMS AR-15 catch in my .308 until I upgraded to the AR-10A catch.
planeflyer21
RRA has that wonderful ambidextrous mag release. That is proprietary. Like the bolt carrier and bolt. And charging handle.
Lon Moer
The magazine release is the same. And for us CA people the Bullet Button is the standard AR-15, too. Edited October 24, 2013 by Lon Moer

Not all mag releases are created equal. I really suggest the Armalite AR10A mag release for all .308 rifles... except those RRA bastards. Those guys are on their own. planeflyer21
Nothing like an ambi mag release to trip with your trigger finger, just above the ambi bolt-stop. But curse that damn proprietary BC group!!!!
DNP
What is this mag release you speak of? We have to mail a letter to the governor every time we want to put another TEN rounds in. Then drop off a piss test, and wait six weeks for someone certified to come remove the magazine for us.
DNP
Double post. Edit to add though....the guy they send out IS ambidextrous Edited October 24, 2013 by DNP
