Any recommendations on my first build? Ive just tuned into you guys and definitely for a new home lol. Its goin to be a slow build cause my wallets not what it should be. Any brands or ideas to entertain or stay away from would be a big help. Thanks in advance and im gonna love my home away from home.

Welcome from AZ!

Buy a complete rifle that fits your budget if possible. Probably the best bet for now since there 308AR parts aren't really standardized and could end up being a headache.

...forgot to mention - new "complete rifles" also come with warranties, which could be handy in solving any teething problems. Used rifles - buy it from someone you can trust so you don't end up inheriting someone else's problems

If you're set on building Wash is correct, start with a lower receiver, get a matched upper/lower set if you can swing it.

I'm going to recommend the DPMS/SR25 pattern receivers only because they're easier to find parts for so here's a few to ponder...

Welcome from AZ !

All good advice ^^ , depending on your budget !

Buy a complete upper ,DPMS pattern then build the lower half from parts.

Much easier to do and affordable, you will be building your own gun and the upper headspacing issue will be taken care of. You will be able to customize the lower as you see fit.

Peter The reason I like Mega MA10 is because when you buy the matched upper/lower billet they come with a charging handle, and the takedown pins, and also the pesky detent pin on the front is already installed and so is the ambi bolt catch.....makes it easy peasy to start your build.

also it has a tension screw,so if ever your upper/lower gets any slop you can adjust for it,but Ive never had to do this....they are built so exact you can hardly see the line where the upper and lower come together!

money well spent and not that much more either than other brands :) Wash

Welcome aboard Peter. Your wallet should abandon all hope here.

SI Defense has matched upper/lower AR308 sets in stock now (at least last week they did). a lot of folks here use them. They are an excellent platform to begin your build.

Hi Peter. I'm one of the Armalite guys around here. Don't listen to these guys. You can find parts for AR-10's fairly easy as long as you stay on top of what you're looking for. Go buy yourself an AR-10 carbine to start with. As you learn about the platform, you'll become comfortable enough to build one after a while. Either an Ar-10, or an AR308 patterned rifle. Though I'd stick with the Armalite style. I mean, once you're driving a Lincoln.....you don't wanna change over to a '73 chevette. <lmao>

Oh, and get ready to laugh as these guys start to lay into me. No worry. I can take it. I'm used to it. <lmao> They're all just jealous.

Peter, listen here - THIS is sound advice.  DO NOT listen to THAT GUY ^^^...

DO NOT.  <lmao>

Hmmm. As the pig in the commercial said. Guess I just walked right into that one.

You know what I meant Peter. Don't trust these other guys. The one's like, Instigators....enablers in chief's...and so on. And most of all, that unforgiven guy. He'll bait you in....while someone sneaks up behind you and pulls a hood over your head......and it's all down hill from there. Next thing you know......you wake up in a drunken stupor in the back of a short bus going to god knows where (why does this look like Mass.?)....surrounded by a buncha drunks laughing and holding large caliber weapons. <lmao>
