survivalshop
I say they are doing this for many reasons , one being , keeping ammo & components from Citizens .
gnatshooter
The obvious purpose of these ammunition purchases is to "be prepared". So you have to wonder, what is the government preparing for.

greenmist
Curious to follow and see what they purchase, and how much. Printed this off for a Postal friend who is taking it to work for a talk with management and their Union. The USPS already has their own LE Division, they may need ammo., but will they "order" 700,000 rounds of 7.62 x 39 ? I forget which agency last fall "ordered" 600,000 AK mags...? survivalshop
I forget which agency last fall "ordered" 600,000 AK mags...? It was the US Army & then they ordered a boat load of ammo from them . If you look at the list , if correct, there is some agencies that I never thought would need an armed LE . The EPA has been conducting Swat type raids in Alaska for water pollution violations. I think they are getting ready for civil unrest for some thing they are about to do or the sentiment towards the Gov. is making them all nervous. Makes all the rumors of containment ( concentration ) type properties being revamped across the US making sense.
RAWTAZ
I really wondering if the ATF is approving requests for manufacturing permits on Ammo or not. It would be very revealing to know if we have manufacturers our there trying to get into the business and they are being stonewalled on the permits or not. It would seem to be a great time to be a manufacture of ammo today. The AK related purchases are very interesting, are these for supplying a foreign force like the UN? Pretty scary stuff. The post office has had it's own LE division for a very long time, not sure they every experience the need to do a tactical insertion into any facility though. Sisco
Guessing the Army purchase is to support Iraqi and Afghani military forces. Years ago the Army made a huge purchase of Arsenal AK type 7.62x39 weapons from Bulgaria to standardize the weaponry of the Iraqi and Afghan defense forces. The Russians were miffed at that time because the Bulgarians under bid them and the plant was built with Soviet assistance in the first place. planeflyer21
20 years ago (under Clinton) it was brought up that 60+ federal agencies had tactical teams…USPS, HUD, NOAA, etc. The money pit that is the federal government needs to be cut off. Not reined in. Starved to death.

Zebra644
Too many agencies now think that they "need" their own law enforcement branch... I don't know if your aware but the post office does have thier own L.E.O's they are called Postal Inspectors, but i'm not aware that they needed those many rounds for quals / requals. I do agree by the way, for a goverment for the people by the people it appears they have stopped listening. I am sure our founding fathers have done flips and rolls in thier graves. jtallen83
Al-Qaeda actually-same "rebels" who helped us defeat the Russians in 80s Afganistan, Charlie Wilsons war... Summer of 1984 I helped teach a group of Arab looking guys how to shoot stinger missiles in Ft. Stewart Ga. Charlie Wilson didn't get his plan to hand out stingers to the Mujaheddin past congress till 1986. Not a word of it was mentioned when the topic came up in the Iran/Contra hearings, go figure <dontknow> I'm probably not supposed to mention it but then........the liars can bite me! planeflyer21
Too many agencies now think that they "need" their own law enforcement branch... When a "nation of laws" screams to pass more laws, you need enforcers to enforce those laws. Rhetorical question: Which do you say more often- "It's a free country" or "There needs to be a law"? greenmist
Feedback was: they had no idea why they'd need THAT big of an ammo order, and the guesstimates for Postal Inspectors across the US were put between 3 & 4000, but nobody knew for sure. Yeah, I hear ya...in '87 we trained a bunch of Hondurans F.O.T.B.. Confusing as all hell, as COs wanted them to be squad leaders but they couldn't speak english. We shipped em to SOA from us.
