BLKSHEEP
Question for you Dodge guys, I just acquired my fathers new 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 , he lives out of town and recently fell ill and had to go into a nursing home. I had never seen the truck before so I was surprised when I saw the 4x4 emblem on the tailgate. While driving it back home I looked around for the 4x4 controls and there aren't any so the next day I crawl underneath and zilch , standard 2x4 drive train. So my question is why does this tailgate have the 4x4 emblem? Am I missing something? It only has 6000 miles & never been wrecked! Unless Dodge is doing this for some whacky reason the only thing I can think of is maybe the truck he wanted had a ding in the tailgate & they swapped him out for a tailgate off a 4x4 of the same color <dontknow> Edited March 26, 2014 by BLKSHEEP
Robocop1051
My buddy just bought this same truck. He explained the "4x4", but for the life of me I can't remember.... Where's Tom?
98Z5V
Look close at that front end - everything is different now. IFS. IFS sucks 4WD controls these days are a button, or a twist knob, too. No more lever-on-the-floor for the transfer case. Those days are gone. Pull the VIN and call a dealership - have them run the VIN and see what it really is. No kidding. <thumbsup>

98Z5V
For the record, Dodge was the last company making a "real 1/2 ton 4WD truck." I think 2001 was the last year for it, too. Lever on the floor for the transfer case, solid axle front (Dana 44) and not that bull$hit IFS. What a "truck" should be, instead of the electronic bull$hit and IFS, to make the damn TRUCK ride like a car... Pu$sies and Yuppies cause this. They wanted "trucks," but didn't like the way they rode - which was like a TRUCK. Not a damn car. "Eeeeeehhhh, I don't want to reach down to the floor, and pull that lever or shifter... eeeeeeehhhh... Why can't I just push a button?... " Faggots. Ford and Chevy sold out the 1/2 tons long ago, with their IFS front-end garbage, and the knobs and buttons to engage 4WD. Toyota did it right, but their last year for a solid axle was 1985. They improved that thing to perfection by 1985. The Pu$sies and Yuppies climbed up their a$s early, and the 1986 SUCKED. The other companies followed suit. Ford's TTB front end was one of the worst - "Twin Traction Beam" - that thing was a hybrid differential that they called the Dana 50. They had one hell of a commercial for it, though... Breaking lightbulbs and $hit... I'll find that commercial, somewhere, but I can't find it right now. Here's one to entertain the Ford fans, and blow up their egos... Toolndie7
A friend of mine "who worked at a dodge dealership" is a mopar guy all the way and always bragged about his new truck. One day he decided to pull a small bush from his front yard, so he pulled up in 4 wd and chained it up. started pulling and detonated the carrier in his front diff ! He never heard the end of that one. <laughs>
shepp
It sits high off the ground like my buddies 4x4 dodge, the 2wd ones sit pretty low. I'd say look for a push button my buddy has one but idk where is located I can ask tho

I'd say look for a push button my buddy has one but idk where is located I can ask tho Its not a 4x4 , I've owned 4x4's all my life . No transfer case,no front axle or diff, no controls in cab. The only thing it has is that 4x4 emblem on the tailgate of a practically brand new truck "weird" I'll track down the salesman when I get time. On a side note that 5.7 Hemi is pretty stout! 392heminut
LOL! You think that 5.7 Hemi is pretty stout in that truck, you should see how it is in a 3500 lb. muscle car!

Robocop1051
My wife thinks it's cute when others try to keep up with her 6.7l turbo diesel. That big ol truck ain't the fastest thing on the road, but I'll be damned if she ain't the first one off the line holding a lead for at least 200 yards or more... depending on whether or not they get the balls to chase her down. Goofing off like that eats up those 37" Toyo's too much to do it often. Edited March 27, 2014 by Robocop1051

NoFail
98' do you have a verdict on my '96 T100 4x4? I never had a problem with front diff. I don't abuse it, don't engage it much either. There is no button or switch but on the floor you engage with lever down there, either 4 high or 4 low, from out of 2x. But it is electronic and it sports half shafts up front. Actually I've owned it from brand new off the lot and she still goes strong. That pick-up is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, going on 255,000 miles. I've replaced the starter recently and only done timing belt twice, last time was last year.

98Z5V
My 2005 Ram still has lever 4 wd. Works great. 107000 miles and counting. Yeah, but it went to IFS in 2002, if it's a half ton truck. The 3/4 ton and 1 ton still maintained a solid front axle.
planeflyer21
Those first-gen T100 trucks are tough, brother, very tough. <thumbsup> Had an acquaintance with one bought new, he owned it for 8 months. Of those 8 months, it was in the shop for 6 months. Kept breaking an axle just driving around town.
NoFail
^ A lemon in every crowd I guess. Seriously though, all I do is tune it whenever and change oil regularly. It has had 4" suspention lift since day one, 31x12.5 tires. One time I broke rear axle, my fault. It's been rear ended 3x, one time hit and run. Redone exhaust twice, starter once, timing belt/water pump twice, shocks few times. That's pretty much it. Remarkable.

98Z5V
Tacomas were a good example of 4WD IFS done decently. They were even better if you did a straight-axle conversion... Seriously, that was a hot thing to do - modern technology version of what Toyota left everyone with in the 1985 model. I need to start looking for a decent 1985 Toyota 4WD now...

My first vehicle was an 04 Toyota 4x4, I think the sticker price was $13.000+- and I thought that was outrages <laughs> It was a damn good truck, just under powered for my taste (4 cyl.) I've got an 07 Tacoma 4x4 now that's holding up well so far.
