Magwa
Warriors are and have always been in high standing in my people, I want to say thank you to all the warriors past and present who have given their all for their people no matter who they are, to the men and women who have given everything they will ever have in this life Thank You...... Travel well my brothers and sisters you will never be forgotten...... Cheif Tecumseh “Going Home” The Great Chief of the Shawnee Nation and Her People So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and nothing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. Chief Tecumseh, Shawnee Nation

Plan2build
My feelings on this weekend are very strong and prideful. Coming from a military family, (father, mother and ball brothers), the meaning of this day was never lost. It is no wonder that my father, a Colonel who saw duty in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, died on this weekend 24 years ago. A fitting rememberance for me, and I know my flags will be flying high and with the utmost respect to all who served and sacrificed to preserve our liberties. God bless you all! A quote from the 23rd President of the United States- Benjamin Harrison: "I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did."
98Z5V
Magwa, with you being so far west, I'm surprised you're so familiar with Tecumseh, and the Shawnee. I'm part Shawnee myself, through heritage, but not enough to qualify as NAI. Maybe that's why I feel such an urge to give you a pants-down hug, brother... <dontknow> <lmao>

unforgiven
" In the Flanders field" was written in 1915 by Lt. Col John McCrae,M.D. a Canadian who served as a surgeon in the Great War.He wrote it after witnessing the death of a friend at Ypres,Belgium.McCrae died in France in 1918,at the age of 46,from pneumonia,an all-to-common battlefield ailment. " In the Flanders Fields" In the Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, now row on row That mark our place;and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead.Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In the Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow. Inspired by McCrae's poem,an American women,Moina Michael, wore poppies to honor the war dead. She also began selling poppies to raise money for the disabled veterans of the Great War.This idea spread to France and England and then to Canada and the United States. 392heminut
Just got in from camping in an area with absolutely no cell phone or internet service so I'm a little late to the party, but I want to say thank you to all our service people both past and present and a big thank you to every one of you on this board who has served or is serving. It is because of the sacrifice of the warriors of this country we are all free. <thumbsup>
