  1. If you want some good replacement components for your Bolt , D.Wilson makes very good Parts kits http://www.dwilsonmfg.com/store/c5/AR10_Parts.html . Many here use them & his BCG's . I had a very early CMMG Lower Receiver that the first LR308 Pmags would not work & caused the same feeding issue you have/had . This Lower had no feeding issues with any Steel Mag used , several makes were tried & all worked , including Lancer L7'S, but not Magpuls . Found discrepancies in the height of the top Cartridge in the Mag ,off the Lower Receiver top Deck , I have to get my notes out to give exact measurements , but found it doesn't take much for a Bolt over Failure to feed , the Bolt slides over the Cartridge Base & the front of the Bolt Carrier catches it & you have seen the result . Tolerance stacking in these 308AR made Receivers is a large issue , I did three things to fix or correct the issue ( well Magpul did one of them ) I bed the action to take up excess play between the Upper & Lower Receivers , including Shimming front Pivot Pin between the Receivers , used an AR 10 Armalite Mag Catch , which has a larger locking Pad area & as said , Magpul came out with a Gen. 3 LR PMag , they lowered the locking point on the mags , mag Catch recess & its stop , raising the bottom of the highest Cartridge in the Mag for a better feeding level & not interfering with BCG travel . Rifle functioned flawlessly after that , with all mags , even the original Pmags . Your issue is somewhat the same , but more extreme , it seems . I don't blame CMMG or Magpul for the issue with my rifle , because when CMMG made /designed the Lower , only Steel Mags were available , Magpul didn't come out with the LR version if the PMag for many years after I built the rifle with a CMMG Lower & at the time CMMG didn't build complete rifles , only Receivers .
  2. Clint knows his stuff & if its solid , he has made it that way on purpose . You should have no issues with his products .
  3. Welcome from Florida , I was born & raised in Lorain & spent my first 51 years around the area ( Amherst , Elyria )
  4. Bye !
  5. I was being sarcastic about the .50 , but how about a 416 ?
  6. Ya , how many can you afford , oh wait , a promotion
  7. Then you might as well make a .50 cal. too. There is no do all Cartridge , all are mission specific , some will do better then others in overlapping needs . It always seems everyone is looking for that magic Bullet & they seem to be always going backwards in Rifle cartages to try to find it .
  8. Cough up the $$ & purchase the correct size .
  9. I just started Annealing last year & it has made a difference in 308 Neck tension , not to mention with the 25-45 Sharps made from LC 5.56 Brass , made for easy Forming . I just Annealed a bunch of .223 Brass last week & have sized them , but haven't loaded them yet because of the 25-45 testing . I never thought it would make much of a difference , but it seems to help the Brass . I made my own Annealing contraption with a Battery operated drill & use Temperature indicating paint on the Brass to tell when the correct temperature.
  10. I find a few like this from my test loads , not many now that I Anneal regularly , but .223 brass is cheap still & easy to find , so Annealing is really not all that necessity.
  11. It would probably be a good idea to check the Gas Port size before assembling the Barrel , then assemble & test fire it to see how the system reacts before drilling or cutting anything .
  12. Thanks Faxon for posting an answer , you seem to be always there for your Customers & I for one , appreciate it ,as I'm sure other do here also , but using the same logic of your answer as to the system working at first , goes both ways , if the system worked with the the Gas system & Buffer system at first , the same thing can be said , thats its something else . I agree the Gas Block can be miss aligned or loose & not letting proper gas signature or the Buffer system can be wrong & should be checked ( we have seen our share of the wrong Buffer Springs & Buffers from reputable Manufacturers ) The changing of the Gas Tube to an Armalite Gas length of 15.5" is a logical & inexpensive step in assuring the proper timing of the Action . When we see the Gas Tube protrusion at such a minimal amount, but as said , some work in that position with 308 Carbine gas systems , the determining factor there is the vastly increased gas signature of the Carbine system . We have found here that because there are no standards for large frame AR components , that you can't compare one to another when you have issues , the seating in or breaking in of Components of these Rifles can change after a few testing rounds fired . I do know for the most part, through experience, that the Gas Tube Protrusion into the Upper Receiver is a determining factor in proper operation of the Action or at the very least can be eliminated from a potential issue . Your Company changing to a different Gas Port location then the ones already in existence , AR 10 & DPMS LR308 ,Rifle length gas system, is another step in the wrong direction in standardization of large frame AR's , Though it may make sense for those who use certain components , it is just another change to make things potentially proprietary . IMO The photo I posted above is of a DPMS LR308 with a Kreiger/Criterion Barrel from Fulton Armory ( before they changed to the present Gas Port configuration on their Barrels , I have two rifles with them in the exact same position , a 16" & a 20" ) with AR 15 Rifle length Gas Tubes . Fulton Armory now recommends & sells AR 10 Rifle length Gas Tubes for their Barrels , probably because they made specification changes to the Barrels made for them. From the Fulton Armory web sight; Approximately .325" longer then AR-15 tube, for use for FA 308 & 6.5 Barrels. Will also work on Armalite AR-10.
  13. I agree , weigh them & put them into groups of weights , there is not much difference in the weights . these below are a sample group average I got a while back . .223 - PMC - 97.2 gr. .223- Hornady - 92.6 gr. .223- Norinco - 101.6 gr. .223 - WW - 97.8 gr. .223 - Remington - 95.1 gr. 5.56 - LC - 96.1 gr.
  14. DPMS LR 308 Gas Tube & /AR 15/16M4 Pistol 6-5/8 Carbine 9-3/4 Mid-Length 11-3/4 Rifle 15-1/4 Armalite lengths, Rifle ( 308 ) ----- 15.5 " Mid length Carbine ( 308 )--12 1/16" super SASS Carbine ( 308 )--11" Super SASS< Rife (308 ) ? Mid ,( 223 )------------------ 11 3/4" Carbine ( 223) --------------- 9 3/4 " Rifle ( 223 ) ------------------- 15 3/16" National Match--------------- ?
  15. Its short , some have had no issues with Carbine Gas systems with a Gas Tube protrusion like that , but Rifle length seems not to like it . As said above Get the Armalite AR 10 Rifle length Gas Tube . Fulton Armory has them also . Damn 98 , we sure are seeing a lot of this lately , you would think Faxon would specify an Armalite Gas tube is needed .
  16. Get it out yet ?
  17. You sure its not the Russians ?

  19. Put a Hand Guard on it first
  20. All these measurements need to have its own thread , just for future reference as was said earlier .
  21. And Cup Cakes too !
  22. I got my renewal last year & my wife just paid for hers with a MO a month so ago . Not worried , if they know I'm carrying , they also know I won't be easy .
  23. So , should we start with a wish list & he can get them from there ?
  24. The 10 rounder's & Black 20 rounder is $ 29 , the rest are $ 33 & $ 36 .
