  1. I don't think they make the bolt out of stainless, do they? Just the bolt carrier. Guys run tool steel bolts in stainless barrel extensions all the time. Found the answer on their website: We machine the bolt carrier from 416 stainless steel to provide years of corrosion resistant use. The carrier has been lightened with fluting on the rear of the carrier, while still retaining the strength. The bolts are machined from SAE 9310 steel, magnetic particle inspected and shot peened.
  2. I've done Level 1 and Level 2 on that - very, very great training.
  3. Covered there - got a bunch of those! More details, man - I'm very interested in that carbine rig. <thumbsup>
  4. They are making their own upper, and even though it looks like an Armalite design, it takes LR-20 Pmags. The mag base is off the SR-25. Don't let the upper/lower design fool you. It was designed around the Big Pmag. <thumbsup> It's loaded with a Pmag in the pic above... <dontknow> ;D
  5. Same here - Ive got CAD files on many AR related things, and I've never been able to find anything on barrel extensions, be it 5.56 or .308/7.62. If I ever find something like that, I'd post it up in an instant. <thumbsup>
  6. For those that have never heard about this, or seen this - there's a "Machinist's Rule": There are 3 ways you can have it: You can have it FAST You can have it CHEAP You can have it HIGH QUALITY PICK ANY 2! If you want it FAST and CHEAP, it won't be high quality. If you want it CHEAP and HIGH QUALITY, it won't be fast. If you want it FAST and HIGH QUALITY, it won't be cheap. What 2 do you want?... Same thing goes with barrel makers, in a VERY big way. Keep that in mind, guys, because barrel makers are the ultimate machinists.
  7. They're always too busy. Not for a bad reason, either. They're the same guys that make all of the custom barrels for Spike's Tactical, so they've pretty much got their hands full, full time, just with that. No custom barrel maker is gonna be "fast" - that's just the nature of the beast. What you have to decide as the customer is what you're willing to wait for. Custom barrels can be a 3-month wait, 6-month wait, 1+ year wait... Ballistic Advantage is worth the wait. Emails will take a back seat with them - Give them a call on a regular phone (which so many people are hesitant to do in the email-age) - talk to a human. Call Ballistic Advantage, ask for Adam, and talk to them verbally. You'll have better results. I'm just sayin'... <thumbsup>
  8. ^^^ That one's wireless and hands-free, right?... <laughs>
  9. From what I've seen so far, I'm getting almost identical groups from both bullet weights out of my 1:10 Fulton Kreiger barrel. It's very, very close.
  10. Brownell's: Linky: http://www.brownells.com/1/3/dpms-lr-308-barrel-installation-parts Not quite "direct from the manufacturer," but it's a source with a good price. Only other option I can possibly think of is direct phone conversation with Adam at Ballistic Advantage. <thumbsup>
  11. By all means, hobbes - the big bore is the big bore. <thumbsup>
  12. Welcome aboard, SplineSpider - glad to have ya. <thumbsup>
  13. Shocking, that this was a California Judge that's leading the way here, but it also makes sense, as they're the toughest state with the most ridiculous laws/rules. I'm glad it happened, hope it doesn't get overturned, and hope it sets the example for the rest of the country, in regards to our rights. Ironically, it's from a news source that I don't have much respect for. That made me raise an eyebrow... :o Link to article: http://redtape.msnbc.com/2011/01/online-ammunition-sales-to-continue-for-now.html An excerpt: Gun rights supporters won a major legal victory last week when a California judge struck down as unconstitutional a law that they say would have effectively banned online sales of handgun ammunition just days before it was to have taken effect. Given the sheer size of the California market, the law would have had a major impact on national online ammunition sales, and some online ammo sites had already suspended sales to California. While gun rights advocates cheered the decision, which came amid heightened focus on gun control issues in the wake of the Arizona shooting spree, supporters of the law say ammo sales are dangerously unregulated. And they say they have evidence that millions of rounds of ammunition are illegally sold to convicted felons every year. The California Handgun Ammunition Registration Bill was signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in October 2009 and would have taken effect on Feb. 1. The law would have required that all ammunition sales in California involve a face-to-face transaction and fingerprint registration of the purchasers. Gun owners who wished to use online sites or catalogs would have been forced to have their ammunition shipped to a local gun dealer so the transaction could be performed in person, a requirement that opponents say would have effectively ended online sales. Dealers who failed to obtain fingerprints during a purchase would have been guilty of a misdemeanor crime. While the law would have applied only to handgun ammunition, dealers said it would have effectively ended all online ammo sales in California, as rounds that can be used in handguns can often be used in rifles. Fresno County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Hamilton struck down the law last Tuesday, saying the definition of handgun ammunition used in the legislation was so vague as to be unconstitutional. California's Attorney General Kamela Harris said she might appeal the ruling. The lawsuit was filed by the California Rifle and Pistol Association, among other groups, and backed by the National Rifle Association, which quickly declared victory. The ruling was "an important victory for California gun owners," the NRA said in a statement on its Web site. "For now, at least, mail order ammunition sales to California residents can continue, and ammunition sales need not be registered under the law." NRA officials did not immediately respond to msnbc.com’s request for comment.
  14. Surefire had the 60 and 100rd AR15 mags out at the SHOT Show. They also released a vid on them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1f6MaUaF30 I will pick up one of the 60rd mags and run the hell out of it. <thumbsup> Here's the 100-rounder in an M4A1:
  15. I'm afraid to hit that link - I'm not sure I'm ready to find out what you'll be smuggling in some concealment underwear... <lmao>
  16. Once you do that, you'll be able to run the MOE or MIAD without a problem. <thumbsup>
  17. The first finished lower went to the SHOT Show - looks VERY nice. <thumbsup> Great job by both Seekins Precision and Spike's Tactical. I'm holding out for this one, and it's a difficult wait.
  18. Tango Down covers are kinda like that - is this what you're looking for?
  19. D'oh!!! :o I missed that! My powers of comprehensive reading are slipping...
  20. Correct - super easy to do, and it doesn't affect the function afterwards. <thumbsup>
  21. Oh, you are a bad, bad man. Complete Evil-Doer. <laughs> That Noveske mount is sweet - and it looks identical to the ADM Recon mount, if the Recon didn't have cut-outs on the mounting rings. I'm bettin' that's who is making it for Noveske. <thumbsup> Noveske: ADM Recon: I've handled quite a few of the ADM mounts on other rifles, and they are pure quality. Buy with confidence if they're on your watch list. I'm just sayin'... ;D
  22. One HELLUVA deal, Tac! That should do you well against the coyotes when you get 'em in close. Speaking of that, this is my favorite vid of a close range yote shot:
  23. Oh SHAT, man! :o Didn't know you had a Kriss Super V... You have my envy. Big time.
  24. Galco Yaqui Slide for my Kimber Ultra RCP II. Love that thing.
  25. I'm a great big fan of the Department Of Redundancy Department... <lmao> When you find something that works for you, keep doing it. <thumbsup>
