You moving to Tucson, brother?...

AMU has been messing with .260 Rem for awhile now, as a long-distance sniper setup. That's a 6.5mm projectile. After shooting this Grendel build of mine, I'd like to see some of that action in the M4-based platform.

Looks like this topic is coming back up, but instead of generalities, they're finally getting specific. 6.5mm projectiles. https://www.military.com/kitup/2018/01/17/army-chief-talks-plan-services-next-battle-rifle.html?ESRC=army-a_180124.nl Army Chief Talks Plan for the Service's Next Battle Rifle Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley on Wednesday offered a few more details about his plan to equip combat units with a new rifle capable of delivering up to 10 times the lethality of the service's current infantry weapon. Milley first mentioned his vision for the service's future individual combat weapon in October at AUSA 2017. Speaking at a Jan. 17 Association of the United States Army breakfast, he again said the service is looking at a promising technology, capable of outperforming the current M4 carbine. "We have a good rifle now; it's a capable rifle and it's easily the match of any other rifle around the world," Milley said. "But we have the possibility of developing a small arm for infantry forces and cavalry forces ... that can reach out to much greater ranges than [current weapons] with much greater impact on lethality and with much greater accuracy." Milley did not name the system but the more he spoke, the more it sounded like he was talking about Textron Systems' new Intermediate Case-Telescoped Carbine, chambered for 6.5mm. The working prototype evolved out Textron's light and medium machine guns that fire 5.56mm and 7.62mm case-telescoped ammunition developed under the Lightweight Small Arms Technology program. Over the last decade, the Army has invested millions in the development of the program, which has been rebranded to Textron's Case-Telescoped Weapons and Ammunition. Textron's cased-telescoped ammunition relies on a plastic case rather than a brass one to hold the propellant and the projectile, like a conventional shotgun shell. "The hinge here is the weapon's operating system and the type of ammunition used," Milley said. The 6.5mm case-telescoped ammunition weighs 35 percent less and offers 30 percent more lethality than 7.62mm x 51mm brass ammunition, a much more potent round than the M4 carbine's 5.56mm ammunition, Textron officials maintain. Textron officials say they are using a low-drag "representative" 6.5mm bullet, while U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, or ARDEC, is developing the actual projectile. Textron officials say the new round retains more energy at 1,200 meters than the M80A1. The Army has conducted research and testing with industry partners at Fort Benning, Georgia -- home of the Maneuver Warfare Center of Excellence -- but Milley would not give a specific timeline on further development and possible fielding. "It is an excellent system; they have done some proof of principles on it," he said. "It is real. It is not fantasy, and industry is moving out quickly. And we expect with appropriate funding we should be able to have this particular weapon in the not-too-distant future."

Wonder if it was loc-tited when they built it? Glad you sorted it out, man!

New Scope for my Super SASS? Recommendations?

Right on - looking forwards to your impressions of them. -
That brings up another point, and I forgot about it - Concussion. When I built that 11.5"er, I just slapped a spare A2 flash suppressor on it. I ended up liking it, and built a 7.5"er. And I slapped another A2 on there... First rounds down range rattled my damn teeth, I kid you not. I put it in the range bag, went home, and immediately ordered a Noveske KX3 for it. That ended the teeth rattling, for sure. The concussion off the 7.5"er and an A2 is unbearable. More to think about, and consider. She should shoot one of the other weapons - and those guys should do some fragmentation tests, and see how far out they can reach, while still getting their rounds to frag. Those guns might look cool, but those guys might be shocked at the results... Long story longer... The 11.5" with A2 compared to the 7.5" with KX3 - the 7.5" gun is about 1/2" shorter than the 11.5" gun - because of the length of the KX3...

New Scope for my Super SASS? Recommendations?

I have the medium on my 308, but that's with a 40mm objective. I think a 44mm objective would fit fine, since it's only an additional 2mm per side... Tell you what - I like that mount enough... if you pick up the medium, and it doesn't clear this scope, I'll give you my same money-back guarantee, and pick it up from you. I always have something I can put it on. -
There's a 5.56 velocity drop that follows barrel length. There's a significant velocity drop when going from 11.5" down to 10.5" barrels. The effectiveness of the 5.56 round comes from it's fragmentation after penetration. That all hinges off the velocity. I did alot of research when building my first 5.56 pistol, and dug for alot of information about it, and almost all the information came from studies and presentations from Doc Roberts (DocGKR, if you search him out on other forums). I went with the 11.5" barrel, to increase my distance. If I remember correctly, my maximum range (for reliable fragmentation) was 175 yards with the 11.5" barrel, but that range dropped down to something like 75 yards with a 10.5" barrel. That made my decision for me, and I went with the 11.5". You have to remember the reason for the Mk18 CQB rifle configuration, with it's 10.5" barrel - it's for short-ish range CQB. Nobody that uses that weapon as it was designed is even worried about targets at 75 yards. Their furthest target is "How big is this room or hallway?" Something to think about for a patrol rifle. Hell, even a 12.5" barrel with midlength gas would be a little better than the 11.5"er. That 12.5 setup is referred to as a "Kino Configuration."

Criterion is one company. I don't know of too many others that make that configuration.

You can search the web by the Armalite part number - and enyone that's got one in stock should come up in the search. Also, Armalite isn't out of stock on items long, so hit their email notification on the product, so you'll know as soon as it's back in stock. I found the medium in stock at a couple places, just by searching "Armalite EX0022." -

Hit the Armalite mount here: https://www.armalite.com/product/ex0022-scope-mount-medium/ ^^^ That's a medium height mount - they make a high mount also - I can check mine and see what you need - this was the first mount I used for my first .308 AR, and it's not getting replaced... https://www.armalite.com/product/10805010-30mm-scope-mount-assembly-high/ -

I say try that PA out that I linked. I sent you my "money-back guarantee" already... In the $500~$800 range, I just went with a Nikon Black X1000 for a bolt action .300 Win Mag gun. I needed something more than 14x on the scope, or I would have done another PA for it - seriously. That Nikon went for just over $600, and the magnification range is 6~24. You'll need 30mm rings for the PA scope. You'd be better off with a one piece extended mount on a big AR. Armalite makes a pretty bitchin' one, it's not over the top on price, and it'll match your Armalite. BONUS! -
Please put the results up here - I'm curious if this has happened before, and what would/could cause it. I'm positive that PACT will stand behind it, for sure.
-
I love your P99, brother, just love it.
-
I've only got one SR Gold trigger, and it's never done this. There are probably 3k rounds through it. What's your round count, ballpark number? I'd honestly contact PACT, and let them know about it, see if they've heard of it or remedied it before.

I've been very, very impressed with these: http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-4-14x44mm-riflescope-acss-hud-dmr-308-223-reticle-pa4-14xffp308 I have two of them now, and two of the versions that are just mil-dot and non-illuminated. -
Got that thing out there - but couldn't get my little truck anywhere near close enough to put in a good distance target. The Chollo cactus were all over and I couldn't get around those little bastards, and I couldn't get the little truck across that wash. So... no 400, no 450. I wanted to walk the damn target out there, but Kim wasn't down with hauling all the shiit on foot. 100 zero target, 200 steel gong, 300 steel IPSC target. DAMN! This 6.5 Grendel is a laser beam. I was shooting towards the bottom of the 300 at one point, because that part of the target was clear. Saw the first one contact on the white-painted steel. Shot again, didn't see it. Hmmm... Shot again, and saw that first splash get a little bigger - Good! I hit two close, and fuckin' missed one. Damnit. After checking the target when we were pulling them at the end of the day - there were 3 rounds in that spot. HOT DAMN! 3 rounds in about an inch, at 300 yards. It was not easy to see at distance, through the scope, but man was I jacked up when I saw it up close. Kim has all the pics, and some Shockwave-on-teller glass video, and I'll get that stuff up tomorrow. Local PD Officer came out with my Gun Pusher, and met us out there. This guy had some CRAZY shotgun ammo! Some stuff called DDUPLEKS, with an expanding slug. I just so happened to have a piece of that teller glass in the back of the truck, maybe the 12" x 18" piece. We put one of those slugs in the Shockwave and blasted that teller glass from about 20 feet - it shattered, and went flying everywhere. There were only a few pieces of it left that were more than 3"x3", and that shiit flew all over. Devastating, completely. Out of curiousity, I put a 230 FMJ .45 round into one of the two remaining larger pieces, and all you could see was a mark where it impacted the glass - not even a crack in it. At this point, Kim fired up the phone video, and I went after the other big piece left, and just blew it to bits. That shotgun ammo was nuts... This is the "low-powered" stuff, right here - the red ones are lower powered than the yellow ones - but both are just nasty. http://www.jgsales.com/12ga-ddupleks-dupo28-steel-expanding-slug,-5rd-box,-1oz-slug,-2.75-shell.-p-4298.html These are the yellow ones, expanded. It was a good day.

It's a great book - you'll like it.

We DID set that off while they were driving around us...

If you look at that information closely, every single rifle that was listed with a 100rd magazine was listed as having a bump stock. There is no deviation in that report, from that. The pictures don't agree with the written report. You can clearly see rifles with SureFire 100rd mags that do not have bump stocks on them. I saw no Beta C-Mag 100rd drum mags in any of those evidence pics, only SureFires, so I'm guessing that's all he was using, and I'm guessing that's all this report is referring to.

History has proven that what these men did, resulted in how quickly a few SF ODAs smoked the Taliban in the opening days of the conflict after 9/11. There is a book out about this one specifically, and the book isn't that old. There are a few older books out there that talk about their actions, as they pertained to (what turned into) the larger operation. This is an excellent book on the opening days:

I've taken Greg to places with certain signs posted. Illegals, dangerous area, and such. We were runnin' and gunnin' while USBP was driving around our shoot zone. @edgecrusher

I will revisit the Grendel tomorrow - it's going back to the desert. I have 3 E-Lander 17rd mags now, and 2 ASC 25rd mags for it. I'll get the data up afterwards. I'll try to get it out to 400 yards on steel.

EXCELLENT movie! Absolutely excellent. Very well done, great work. You guys will like it.
