survivalshop
I got a call from a friend up North about another subject & since we hadn't talked in a couple in a while , we talked about what was going on up there with the people we knew & worked with & the subject of one of the guys I used to shoot & hunt with . I was told that this guy had bought a Solvent trap from Ebay & got a visit from the BATFE & they confiscated it . They came there to look for it in particular , no charges , nothing but they wanted that trap that was bought off Ebay. I have no other info & probably won't until I get up there for Hunting season . Kinda strange they just came for the confiscating of the item & not have anything to charge him or some directive . We all know what some people are doing with these things , but if it wasn't made into something , how can they take anything or if it was made into something , why no charges ? blue109
I'm waiting for the QD version :D and will pay cash and will wear one of those glasses/mustache/big nose disguise kits when I do
mrmackc
BATF probably was the ones that sold the trap on eBay in the first place. It could be a crappy ATF trap a trap. I wonder if they expect only machine shops to use a solvent trap on the machines solvent baths? I might need one for my parts washer. I wonder if they would remove a solvent trap from a parts washer? Toolndie7
Wow, So what actually makes that illegal to own? Its basically just a threaded adapter right? not like its a functional suppressor or anything.
ChaseFan9
Wow, So what actually makes that illegal to own? Its basically just a threaded adapter right? not like its a functional suppressor or anything. That's the point most of the companies making them have made to big brother, and they've got a good point. Not just that, but as long as it's used for its intended purpose (though the Sig pistol brace is falling under scrutiny for this very reason, correct?), it's completely legal and unregulated, seeing how BATFE doesn't regulate cleaning supplies (as far as I know). I will throw out there, though, that I am neither a LEO nor a lawyer, and the BATFE has been known to change their stance on certain issues with no warning.... ChaseFan9
It's like saying, "Oh yeah, you can bleach your clothes, but you have to do it in your living room in the floor because if you put bleach in your washing machine it could be used as a destructive device" XD

I've seen similar happen before like with 80% lowers or WWII gun parts kits
blue109
who better than the ATF to determine if something is being misused or abused? they have been misusing and abusing authority since day one. subject matter experts!

I could understand if it was a "custom solvent tank" but even then, until you strap it on and shoot with it, no law has been broken. thoughtcrime is a dangerous thing. And then they had the list of buyers, and visited them in person to make sure it wasn't together with a maglight filled with anything :)

EasyEJL
that's the funny thing, if you sell it as a kit for making your own silencer, and are clear that they have to send in a form 1, pay the ATF tax, etc then there isn't any big deal at all.but you try and dick around with it and are dumb enough to make it too close to constructive intent in your pictures... Microgunner
Maybe the seller was shipping with an oil or fuel filter included.
Armed Eye Doc
I see solvent traps available at local gun shows occasionally. They are not usually publicized much. You kind of need to know what they are because they're not always labeled. There are the occasional venders who will put the whole thing together on display, but not everyone at a gun show is smart. If I wanted one, this is where I would get one and I'd pay cash.
392heminut
The parts I'm using to build my Form 1 suppressor are technically solvent trap parts. As long as I don't drill out the endcap I'm good to go on possession. Pictures here;
jtallen83
The ACLU should be there to help this guy. Maybe I better get rid of that solvent trap......my maglite.....and that stack of freeze plugs that happen to be in a box lot I got an an auction.......nah, on second thought they can come and take........ :fawkdance:
texas30cal
I understand and agree with the argument y'all are making about them regulating this, but if it looks like a skunk and smells like a skunk........ Skirting the rules will just piss them off, no one needs to stir the pot. We've seen it with numerous products in the past which were meant to just barely get around the laws. I'm surprised they got away with it this long, solvent traps, the "auto safety sear" ad in shotgun news, the select fire backplate for glocks, slide fire stocks, the old hellfire triggers, crankfires for 1919's. Some are still around and some not but I choose not to partake because I would rather not enjoy a visit from the alphabet boys.
jtallen83
I don't see this as the public skirting the rules at all. On the contrary it is the government that has skirted the rules starting with that unconstitutional abomination that is the NFA. I can promise you that no ATF agent will get past my door without a search warrant, at least not one on official business. With these continued assaults on Liberty they are doing nothing but waking a sleeping giant. At some point the scales will tip and they will lose the powers granted them by us.
