I worked for Shasta (NBC) for 6+ years and we made our stuff and other companies drinks. The worst of all was Rip It... That stuff would melt through cans sitting in our warehouse. We would chug it in the break room like frat boys did beer.

I used to work for one of the Monster distributors here, and that crap would also eat through the cans before the expiration dates....and you should have seen what it does to concrete .

Yup, if you have a neighbor that needs some education on just how nice his concrete looks, pour some on there......preferably the middle of the driveway.

It doesn't stop eating through the concrete until the monster ingredients are used up. Even washing, dilution,  cleaning didn't stop it whenever it hit the concrete at the warehouse.

When I was at Fort Irwin for desert storm training, the troops were drinking Gatorade by the gallons. We had troops falling out left and right from the stuff. Literally over dosing from the potassium chloride in it. The post commander had all of it yanked from the PX and the post. The stuff is OK to rehydrate with right after a serious work out, and that's it. It will never replace good old H2O.

Here, in the harshest of summer conditions, the locals had it figured out aeons ago:  salted fruit and lots of water.

Salted fruit? does salt on watermelon and cantaloupe count? I also like salt on an apple with a bottle of water for an extended time at the range, or out in the field, during the hot summer days in Texas, it has worked for me for about 50 years.

When George Tubb   (David Tubb's father)  and I held a training session for our NRA Junior Rifle Club shooters (National Match M1)  at the range in Pampa we always had a watermelon and water break for lunch time.

I remember one time George complaining about having to spend $2.00 for a Black Diamond watermelon.

Yes those were the good old days.

It does count as salted fruit.  I should have specified "Dried, salted fruit", plums (saladitos) and apricots (chamoy).  Some people call all of it saladitos.

As kids, the stores had them in a jar by the register, like 3 for a nickel.  So dry they resembled leather, kinda like beef jerky used to be.  Like beef jerky is now, there is an unfamiliar moisture content from something sprayed on them.

Really have to go out of your way to find them truly dry-dry now.

While I can see some benefit to them in a situation with limited resources....I really hate saladitos lol. I have bowls of prepackaged ones in my house from all the pinatas at birthday parties.

Have you got diagnosed on the magnesium shortage? Potassium shortage will do that too. If I eat a banana or an orange a day, I avoid them.

I drank a Monster drink my son-in-law left in our fridge and didn't like it too much, I liked the Sam Adams beer he left a lot better. He is always buying those strange beer and energy drinks, it only adds pounds to his body, that I can tell.

My old ex-Air Force doctor gave me a prescription for Potassium pills (KCl?) , big suckers!....and said that I could eat a dozen bananas and only get half as much Potassium as one pill. I took one a day for a week and quit having the leg cramps at night. I still take one on an occasion when I have leg or hand cramps, seems to help.

I lucked out on the polio, my school mate got it when we were in third grade. He spent months in an iron lung, missed a year of school and had ump-teen surgeries, the polio affected his arms, he was a tough kid.  He became a bookkeeper and manager for his dad's grocery store.

I think I was 17  when I took the Salk vaccine on a sugar cube.

I'm usually a what ever is cold if offered, buy Coors or Bush lite, Micalob but I liked the Sam Adams enough to pay the extra price.
