I have to pop this one up here, and just wreck the thread more- this was an afternoon ride, 8 March 2014 - when I KNEW that JayRod was coming from Cinci to visit - and @SmoothAction made his "surprise visit..."  @DNP is here, @AZMan is here - and it was a pretty badass weekend...  Riding this big sand shiit is all about picking a line - and hoping you don't fuk it up.  If you pick the wrong line, then you get hurt.  We dodged several Witches Eyes when we were up in the big sand - and we made it the long way around to the race hill.  This kinda shiit makes you tired at the end of the day, because it's non-stop.  You come back to eat, fuel the bike - and head back out again.  I love my brothers...   :hail:

20 minutes, but it just doesn't stop.  It's worth it.

Figured I should respond on topic to honor the OP. My wife ended up buying me a safe for Christmas before I got around to buying a utility box. I don't have all my arsenal; the rest of it is at my mom's across state. This is good enough for now. It was on sale at Sportsman's for I think $600 when they were about $800. I have never had a safe before so I can't speak to whether it's good or not... quality seems like a budget-friendly consumer model.

Fire rating?

I was given some advice about fire ratings a long time ago, and it makes sense.  90 minute fire ratings are not needed, as most home fires are extinguished in less than 30 minutes.  I can't vouch for the validity, but it seems to make sense to me.

This thread isn't REAL old, so I thought I'd come here instead of continuing on another thread where I got some suggestions from Shepp about safes:

I got this one from Menards on Black Friday, buddy of mine has had the same one for many years and is happy with it.
Previously I was watching tractor supply and Dunhams sports, they both run great sales. IIRC @Robocop1051said tractor supply has mil/leo discount

Today I looked online for the RIGID 48" box and good golly:  they are over $500 now.  There are a couple of DeWalt versions that hit the $700 mark.  Damn near as much as an entry level safe.

I'm looking more seriously at Cannon, because our local Academy Sports carries them, and I have a better chance of getting it delivered for less than having one shipped by common carrier.

I saw that an American Rebel store just moved in about 2 miles from the house, which seemed cool until I saw that their safes START at $3K and head skyward.  A local gun store carries a line of safes, but I cannot recall the brand.  A good excuse to go there next week....assuming the snow stops....and the roads get plowed.

I got my last one (after I outgrew my first one) from Sam's Club.  The brand is Sports Afield and the quality is pretty good - fireproof and waterproof.  Electronic lock with a key for emergencies.  If you are a member and keep an eye on their "instant savings" sales you can get a good deal that includes free shipping to your door.  The free shipping is a pretty rare deal when it comes to gun safes.

through a local gun shop almost 35 years ago I bought a safe direct from the manufacturer in so. cal.

it was/is bare bones with no interior, one of these days I'm going to finish the interior...

as a matter of fact I just got the metal clips on amazon about 20 minutes ago

it would be nice to be able to store some ammo, and have shelves and such....

y'all inspired me....

I had checked the local "sources" for used gun safes - Craigslist, etc. and of the very few I found, they wanted as much as a new one.  Maybe I should check estate sales - those companies often post online inventories.

I don't know how far away this auction is from you, but they have a couple of safes available.
