What is your biggest complaint about the 308 platform?

Lack of common parts.

With the AR15 types you can do lots of switching around of parts, with little issues.

weight yea,but I think it helps recoil for follow up if you got to hump it and its a big problem maybe try a .22 ha,ha,.Cost,you can't put a price on a good time or the opportunity to nail that runner.You guys build some bad ass rifles but how bout warrarnty it seems that the manufacturer has the out to say the reason it doesn't work is because of the installer [which is bullpoopy]my hands are screwed up with RA and if I have a problem I'll call RRA but thats me.On a lot of other projects i've done like you say the personal satisfaction is priceless.Shoot on bro.

Weight? Nope - I'm carrying a .30 caliber semiautomatic rifle with a sturdy barrel, and a magnified optic.  I had no illusion that it wouldn't weigh a little bit.

Different parts from every manufacturer?  Nope - three major brands that do their own thing.  I just find what I need for the one I'm building.  There are so many different parts manufacturers out there - somebody manufactures the part that I'll be looking for.

Lack of parts? Definitely not.

What else?

Money to build them all, time to build them all.  Has nothing to do with what's available.

There's so much out there already - you can pretty much do anything you want with a .308 AR build.  Barrels - any configuration you want.  Uppers and lowers - everywhere.  Companies jumped on the bandwagon, and billet stuff is everywhere, even though there are problems with billets sets from companies. Triggers - pick an AR trigger and put it in, for the most part.  Stocks - almost all of it crosses over.  Gas blocks - everywhere, from all the big-name manufacturers, because these are AR15 parts, and one of the 4 diameters will fit your .308 AR barrel.  Handguards - they're coming out everyday, more and more.  The hardest thing to find is something for the RRA guns, and those are about the smallest market anyway - market dictates manufacture.

Really, what are you looking to make for everybody, that's really ground-breaking?

The milspec AR-15 spoiled us, I used to feel this way too. Now I think differently. Ithink of these weapons in a similar fashion as any other weapon BESIDES the AR-15. By this I mean look at traditional bolt action rifles from various manufacturers. You can get a handful that look nearly identical in the same calibers etc. Yest most wont have a single part that can interchange with another brand. At least this is how Im able to sleep at night.

On the other side of things, being no standard we have a greater chance at innovation. There are no boundries. JMHO

I wouldnt mind a tool less quick change barrel arrangement and a Switchblock designed for 7.62 that didnt come with a barrel

I'd like to see more high performance parts, like NiB/TiN coated BCG's and hammers.

I'd like to see more combat oriented/specific parts. Most 308 parts are designed towards target/distance shooting.

As far as weight goes. My 308 weighs less than my 223. As far as cost, my rifles are all pretty equal.

The 16" DPMS not a problem , 20" would not want to carry it all day. 24" Bull barrel ,yes their is a problem if your standing up and shooting like a man you had better shoot in under 20 seconds or things may get a little shakey. Thinking about pumping some weights so I can shoot more. <laughs>

Wait: Now this has been an issue for me. Back ordered parts or delays by manufactures.

Nothing, I have some barrels coming but don't really want to start building complete uppers or rifles because there are too many different configurations to keep in stock.

DPMS's lightest 18" barrel is 2lbs 10oz. Ours will be lighter.

Thanks...you know we are running at max capacity now I just can't do the AR12 until we move and enlarge the shop even if the bolts, carriers, extensions and material to make the receivers are stacked on  pallets. We've landed a few LE/DEA contracts that ate up a couple hundred 6.8 barrels in 3 weeks so now we're  waiting for more barrels and machining bolts. For now all I can do is make some light 308 barrels and maybe some 260s.

It seems that weight would be a focal point if you wanted to stand out. Any quality part will get you on the board,  we're glad to have you.
