Matt.Cross
Pretty cool. Had some idea that UDT was the basis of SEAL training but never knew it's what it actually evolved from... Thanks for the vid!

Dane Armory
Wonder if he invented the drink... "Shipley's Shipwreck " One 8.3oz can of Red Bull poured in a glass. And 3 shots of liquor with ships on the label. 2 mixed in and one dropped in with the shotglass and chugged quickly. Cutty Shark Chivas Regal Grand Marnier in the shot glass to be bombed ! 98Z5V
Don is one funny guy. Watch the videos with him and his wife. They appear to be a great couple. I got stuck on those for quite awhile. I know he's been busting out fake SEALs for years, but I didn't know he was uploading all the vids on YT. <lmao> Nobody is going to be able to argue with him. If he busts them out, that's all there is to it. On the other side of that - if Don Shipley says it's quite okay for Jesse Ventura to say he's a SEAL - then that's all there is to it, and Jesse is a SEAL... planeflyer21
"Jesse…you got that $20 you owe me?" <laughs> Pretty cool. Had some idea that UDT was the basis of SEAL training but never knew it's what it actually evolved from... Thanks for the vid! After Hell Week the fun training starts. IIRC dive school is 6 months. Half a year. Flunking any underwater lesson will get you dropped. Weapons training is on everything…if they might encounter it in the sands of Saudi Arabia, they study nay, learn it. Had the pleasure of working TDY with a UDT guy at Little Creek NOB. Great guy! They used to practice placing demolition charges on ships, with their little two-man sub-scoot thing, towing around a large orange ball on the surface…so boats knew where they were. htbde
UDT and SEAL training is completely different. In fact the pins are different. UDT didn't include dive, jump or land warfare. It primarily concentrated on demo and beach related tasks(obstacle removal, hydrographic surveys, etc.)The rather outgoing UDT attention seekers want to be called SEAL's because its the flavor of the month. The reality is the silent professionals despise these types. Regardless it is entertainment. Shipley hasn't buddyfucked a Team mate so he hasn't crossed the line. If he does he will be ostracized from the Team's forever just like Janos was.

98Z5V
I have never heard this until now. Yeah, same here, brother. Especially the highlighted stuff below... That's brand new news to me... <dontknow> UDT and SEAL training is completely different. In fact the pins are different. UDT didn't include dive, jump or land warfare. Who the fuk calls them "pins" in the first place - it's a BADGE. Or Trident. Or Budweiser. It's not a fucking "pin," like the "pieces of flair" that someone wears on their uniform - those are "pins." <lmao> This revelation is shocking... UDT training/course DID NOT INCLUDE DIVING. Huh?... :ugone2far: Edited February 14, 2014 by 98Z5V

htbde
Diving for the UDT era was AFTER basic demo. In fact the development of the semi closed and closed SCUBA systems were developed for UDT and EOD divers. SCUBA and Rebreather is/was taught by Navy divers and still is. There is a Navy Dive locker at BUD/S . During 2nd phase(dive phase) the prospective candidates use double hose regulators with SCUBA before the dive the LARV. I hope that clarifies it for you. NO ONE in the Navy calls their respective pin a "badge" ever. The trident, Budweiser are other references for the SEALs pin but when one loses their quals ( discplinary or otherwise) its called getting "your pin pulled" not badge. Mine is a Diver 2nd class PIN. Badges are for Armie and they have one for everything <thumbsup>. As I can guess your an Army intel dude so further research may help enlighten yourself and your minions. Pick up the popcorn the shows over.
98Z5V
As I can guess your an Army intel dude so further research may help enlighten yourself and your minions. Pick up the popcorn the shows over. Yeah, Signals Intelligence (the "98"), Senior SIGINT Sergeant (the "Z"), at the MOS Skill Level of E-8 or E-9 (the "5"), and Ranger Parachutist (the Victor SQI at the end). <thumbsup> Your Google-Fu is semi-strong. Never heard of any badge being called a pin. Only worked with a few Navy peeps over the years, though, never around Big Navy (my reference for what we call "Big Army" - the Conventional Army). Maybe that's the reason. <dontknow> Diver, huh? Not UDT or SEAL? You sure had alot of $hit to say about Rangers when I saw a fellow Ranger join this board. Since then, I don't give one squirt of piss about you. Just my opinion.
htbde
Well now detective. My background is public here. Guess you missed it. If you did you would see I was NEVER a SEAL or claimed to be one. I was at NSW commands 88-06 but whatever. Never was "big Navy" as you call it. Its called "Bluewater Navy" but whatever.I did notice the pic you posted of you rifle(nice BTW) on some desert cammies w/Ranger scroll, Sapper and SF tab with flash. Interesting. never seen those all together. With all those "badges" I would think you would throw on a SCUBA PIN

Got my ASS KICKED in Pre-Scuba (Pre-CDQC, or Pre-Combat Diver Qualification Course) in 1995, and didn't make it through. That's some tough $hit! The only course I ever failed to make it through. <dontknow> There was NO Sapper Tab, nor was there an SF Tab on my uniform, ever, nor did I post a pic with those on it. You should brush up on what you think you saw, or imagine what you think you saw, but that doesn't make it the case. The Flash is what goes on the beret, too, not the uniform jacket, so there was no flash in any pic of mine. Ranger Tab on uniform, above Special Forces unit patch - Ranger assigned to an SF unit. Happens routinely, with support guys. 2d Bn Scroll - that's "SSI-FWS" in Army terms - Shoulder Sleeve Insignia - Former Wartime Service. Or, "Combat Patch" in common language. I also have the SF unit patch as a combat patch, and 7th Infantry Division (Light) as a combat patch. Big deal. I'm also not a detective... Dane Armory
EWTF... I was under the impression that they were the same until specific training differenciated them. I had a science teacher in high school who was a UDT diver in Vietnam and later a Seal team leaded. His duties were to remove Mines in rivers and harbors. He still walks around with ounces of Shapnel in him.
Robocop1051
For the record. We do have bonafide and confirmed SF on this site. No one gets away with false SF claims on this site. We do our best to ensure that the sanctity of the title (no matter the branch) is unblemished on our pages. To insinuate that any long standing member may be posting pictures, or making statements that falsely place them as part of a distinguished SF unit, is not only an insult to the member but also to the intelligence and integrity of the administrative staff for this forum. We pride ourselves for running a tidy ship, and washing out the riff-raff, rabble-rousers and other delinquents. An old cowboy once told me, "your integrity is the only thing that can't be taken from you, unless you give it up yourself." A man only gets one name. I believe if he changes it, it's because he's hiding or he's lost all the value of his last name. Even Johnny Cash understood this with his song "A boy named Sue". A screen name is the same thing in the virtual world. Many of us carry the same name from forum to forum, to maintain accountability and credibility. I'm not calling anyone on to the carpet, yet. just letting people know we're watching and monitoring all the time.
