blue109 Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 actually looks kinda cool. but cmon....factory grip? do you choose a set template? is it possible to have a custom design done?
Microgunner Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 Gotta say, looks like your buddy did a fine job.
blue109 Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 is there a seam or mismatch line somewhere on the gun after the dip?
shepp Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 I like the new dipping stuff. I'm interested to hear how well it holds up on the grip/stock area... even in/out of a case wear. Suppose to be tougher than paint
Microgunner Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 I wonder if I can get an AR dipped with a big ol fde titty pattern? I'd never stop fondling it then. :-D
392heminut Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 I wonder if I can get an AR dipped with a big ol fde titty pattern? I'd never stop fondling it then. :-D Dammit Micro, now I got beer all over the keyboard. Shyt! :thefinger:
Toolndie7 Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 no fde boobies but gives you an idea on how it works
unforgiven Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 She shoulda stuck her face in there.
Toolndie7 Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 :bat: yeah she got smacked with the ugly stick
Matt.Cross Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 :bat: yeah she got smacked with the ugly stick Stick? I think either the whole ugly tree fell on her, or she fell out of the top of it and hit every branch on the way down...
Microgunner Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 :bat: yeah she got smacked with the ugly stick Smacked? Someone broke the damned stick on her.
Madhouse Posted July 25, 2014 Author Report Posted July 25, 2014 Rob, I'll let everyone know how it wears, but big is right, it's all in the clear coating. He did a nice job on the clear, it seems solid. One thing he told me that I found weird was that I should try not to handle it with bug spray on my hands, I guess that stuff in particular can damage the clear. Blue, I told ya buddy, this build was a spare parts Frankenstein. :)) You pick a template, there are tons of them. I'm pretty sure there are places that will print your design or picture on a film too though. There is a line on the foreend, no biggie though - I'll just put it facing downward, but no detectable seam line anywhere on the receiver parts. I put the upper and lower and grip together before giving it to him to dip, so it all blended. One thing I was impressed with, the pattern even flows in and out of the rails, over the trigger guard, everywhere.
blue109 Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 thanks mad. I'm usually not into this type of thing, but a dia de los muertos skull pattern would be bad ass.
unforgiven Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Thier is alot of cool stuff in that catagory.
LAR8Autoshucker Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Im working on my friends mka 1919, one of those shoguns that look like an ar. He chose red burl wood. I only have the fore end done so far. The "lower" is base coated and ready to dip. You can see little voids near the ribs that will be touched up before clear coat. LAR8Autoshucker Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 I like the skulls, madhouse. I want to find a pattern like that but with a multi cam background instead of black, and put that my next gun.
DNP Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 I've been wanting I do the burl wood and gloss it like the dash of my car. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
LAR8Autoshucker Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 I'll post pics when I get it finished. I was surprised, when I rolled the burl wood film out and held it up to the light, it looked more like the cover to Metallica's Load album than wood, but looks pretty ok once applied.
