shibiwan
It was definitely suspicious from the photos.I would have expected the Taliban filleting him up into pieces by now, but he was shown in traditional garb eating, drinking, whatever. It had me suspecting something was up.....
DNP
Ok, so if it works out that way...maybe we traded five camels for a Yugo.

98Z5V
It's almost "funny" that this was a "new report" in 2012 - that he might have left his post willingly. Those in his unit always reported that's what happened. The ones that were with him everyday, when this happened. http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/06/13/new-report-says-captive-u-s-solider-left-his-post-willingly/

Now having said that , if some of this new info is true , well that makes the whole trade for his release , suspicious .
98Z5V
^^^ That's just the thing, brother - this isn't new info. This is the original info that has been swept under the rug for a long, long time... Edited to add - you'll all be able to follow the links and get to the information through this: http://www.militarytimes.com/article/20140531/NEWS/305310046 Edited June 1, 2014 by 98Z5V
blue109
no "investigation" or media report know what happened out there better the guys he shared a tent with. those guys painted a dark picture of the situation from the start. whatever story comes out now, years later, while he's in the spotlight, is suspect. gnatshooter
Looks like the soldier's dad is part of this. And the thing is getting some pretty strong commentary: AWOL Traitor Traded for Taliban Terrorists: “In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful,’’ AWOL soldier’s dad said in Arabic - Pamela Geller (blog) - May 31, 2014http://pamelageller.com/2014/05/name-god-gracious-merciful-bergdahl-said-arabic.html/

shepp
Another story the blaze shared I read said his captors or other afghans said he was intoxicated with two afghan solders and they were looking to get more intoxicated before he was captured. Also brought up anothe valid point, there is now a price on Americans because after X amount of years we are back in dealing with terrorist. Not that we didn't know but our prez is a fecking idiot we shoulda left this guy there...... Edited June 1, 2014 by shepp
Microgunner
I'm hoping the 5 released detainees woke up after a REALLY, REALLY good nights sleep a few months back with tracking devices deeply implanted in them and the whole exchange is a ruse to locate Taliban brain trusts for drone strikes down the road. survivalshop
Another thing this swap has done is , " Wag the Dog " to get the news media to cover it & not the VA murders . Not that its not news ,but anything they can do to get" Bagram Berry "to look good . Its a political stunt to make him look good , like he cares , we all know he doesn't care one bit about us , its all about him , him , him ,him ! It would be nice if they were tagged for extinction , but underestimating the Taliban would be a mistake . It would not be a problem for them to X-ray those released to see if there is something in them .
blue109
and as usual...it's backfiring. seeing more and more discussion online about what we are discussing here. another PR nightmare brought to you by the Barry administration. you can only polish a turd so much before it starts falling apart. The more they peel this onion the stronger the smell gets. I think it is just getting started. I hope it stays on the forefront...not to embarrass or shame the administration, but to force them to fix it. Blue is right. This is backfiring big time. shibiwan
Perhaps he was traded back to stop any further damage he could do to the security of US Operations in the area? survivalshop
He's been out of touch with normal operations for five years , I don't think he can give them anything much , anymore , if he was cooperating with them . I now believe he was , IMO . They probably have no use for him any more & are tired of feeding & taking care of him , so why not get there big leaders back in trade . Its win win for them . planeflyer21
I'm very wary now that ALL the mainstream media is picking this story up. An agenda is afoot...either distraction from something else (the VA debacle?) or to provide fuel for ramming something down our throats. Perhaps "This one case clearly shows that veterans sympathize with those who would destroy our country, therefore we need to suspend all 2nd Amendment rights for this dangerous cross section of society,"? Caution: bastids at work!
12BravoMike
There has not been one decent source that says ANYthing has happened, per any POW releases; it's all hearsay and conjecture. Pictures of alleged soldiers and combatantants we are unfamiliar with. Has anybody seen video footage of a "release"? Peculiar to see how far folsk will run with unverified informations. gnatshooter
This whole thing is happening in an information vacuum. Why is a guy who abandoned his post and "went native" worth five from the top terrorist leadership? Someone, somewhere, figured this was a fair deal. Now, one of ours for five of theirs seems basically not too bad. But one (perhaps) traitor for five scum? Explanations for the value behind the deal are not there. Matt.Cross
Considering we released 5 from Guantanamo with absolutely nothing in trade some time back, this is hardly surprising. It's a shame that this guy gets the heroic welcome while Edward Snowden stays in exile.
