  1. In the old days (so I’ve read, I wasn’t really there- plenty of folks on here were though) the long version AR with a fixed stock was a rifle and the shorter one with a collapsible stock was a carbine. Hence the birth of the terminology. Things have changed, but even then you could have run a carbine stock and buffer setup on a rifle platform. We’ve learned to mix and match over the years and when you’re talking carbine or rifle there’s two halves you’re talking about. The gas system, and the recoil seystem/stock. There’s also a bunch of other stuff that’s been thrown in the mix over time. Mid length gas, different stock and buffer setups. As long as you understand them and plan accordingly, you can make a lot of combinations work just fine together. I have noticed they don’t make a mid-length buffer tube....interesting, no? Not really, two separate halves with two different functions - similar names due to history.
  2. Apples and oranges there. Be careful and read that again. You’re quoting carbine specs on one and some rifle on the other. I’m my own dumbass opinion, I think the reason we see so many barrels with small gas ports is because they are desperately trying to make it run right with a lighter buffer. They think by cutting the gas they can balance it. It’s been proven here. Bunch of times in guns that just won’t run right. Proper gas port opening and the right buffer weight....happy gun.
  3. Welcome from San Diego. Good luck on the build. I have a 16” criterion and a Fulton bolt. No complaints. Though, they are about 10 years old now.
  4. I run a 1-4 scope on my 308 and like it enough for close and out to 400. One with a BDC might be a little better, but I don’t know that running a red dot and a scope would provide much benefit. post up some pics of your new AR.
  5. ....he said please.
  6. Welcome from CA. Another freedom free state.
  7. That’s why we love you man. Not because you let us kick you in the nuts repeatedly, but because....no, it’s pretty much because you keep coming back for another kick. Then you smile and hand it back.
  8. You do have a few. It’s been awhile since you’ve been harassed as the Armalite snob of the group.
  9. When you’re runnin searches like “bunny on a bike”....you’re gonna find someone with a good sense of humor.
  10. You already have an adjustable block. Go bigger with the gas port and you can always tune down if you have to.
  11. He did. How about a 40lb lever gun?
  12. Get the marlin 45/70....nothing but smiles shooting that one. this one looks like a fun rig, but he went though a bit to make that thing. I’m looking for another lever at some point, but it’s 3-4 down the list.
  13. Didn’t you buy me that one last Christmas?!
  14. Wrong thread...there’s another one for jokes. You think they care about constitutional? They aren’t denying me the right...they’re just making sure I’m worthy of having it.....
  15. Only on the new ammo purchases. There’s a quick verification that supposedly just confirms you’ve had a check from your current address. I failed the quick check because I had not paid for a full one or purchased a firearm from my new place. I fixed that now.
  16. Now that CA has to run one each time we buy ammo....I’m sure it drives up the numbers a touch.
  17. But yeah. Post the wasp video. It’s out there somewhere.
  18. I meant brass. You have all the @dpete brass market locked up.
  19. I get where you were going, but for his sake.... you misspelled “shorts”
  20. Good work Sadie. You too Cliff.
  21. At some point, Tom is gonna share.

    Grilling

Ow was mixing mesquite and pecan for a while. I’ve been using this pretty often lately. The store I was getting the bear valley pellets at quit carrying them. Too bad, they were a little cheaper and burned well.
