Most modern barrels will handle .308 Win. even if stamped 7.62x51. The issue is primarily with older first generation surplus 7.62x51 rifles, whose actions can not handle repeated higher pressures of .308 Win.

Man, that seems to be a crappy condition of employment! Mine was a '73 C172M. Had it on leaseback with a flying school and was making enough to pay for my training and, when that was done, for flying and maintanence. Then the flight school was sold to a trial lawyer and the cashflow stopped. Then two of his instructors taxied the wing into a pole while looking at other aircraft, he refused to make an insurance claim but did pay for repairs. Sold it shortly thereafter to a broker. I see now that C172M was sold to Mexico, and now N20308 is registered to a flippin' hot air balloon.
