Just need to decide on optics and a new rail.
If you search the site you will find several threads about what a pain the captured recoil systems are in 308.
Yes you can go with light weight components and cut back the gas BUT it will probably only run w/1 or 2 loads.
If you want lighter weight build a pistol. I have 2. 12.5" 308 pistols. They are quite a bit lighter than my rifles and out to 3or400 yds they the job done quite well.
Light and low recoil don't go together in a 308. Consider a 6.5 Grendel or 6 ARC. In the smaller frame Ar-15..
All that light weight stuff and fancy captured recoil parts is going to be a pain to get to run right. And when it does it will probably only run right with 1 or 2 specific loads.
CDNN has Bushmaster kits less the barrel, BCG, gas block, and gas tube for $499. Bear Creek has BCG as of yesterday. Faxon had barrels and so did Brownells.
Colt has been in and out of bankruptcy and receivership for years. CZ took over Dan Wesson a few years back and they are still making excellent guns. Probably a good thing.
We have about 1/2" of ice everywhere since Wednesday. Expecting 2 storms between now and Tuesday pm. Up to a foot of snow expected. Work was soooo fun sliding around the lots with semi trailers.
The gen2 p80 Glock frames I just finished were easy. I used a pocket knife, egg beater type hand drill, file, and a dremel. No milling like the first gen stuff. 2nd gen has metal rails in the rear too.
If you have a vise and a couple of empty 45acp cases they make the ejector install easier. A 45 case fits the bolt head and will collapse the ejector enough to get the roll pin in. The other piece of brass goes over the tail of the bolt. It helps if there are two people. Another set of hands.
