Do you have a pic of the other side of the receiver. Doesn't look like the mag catch is screwed in enough. Take a small punch and push the button in and screw that thing in some more.

You need the Wilson gas tube for that barrel. As long as the rail is the right height to match the upper you should be good. You might check w/Wilson about the thread pattern on the upper. I don't know if they use dpms pattern or armalite pattern or their own. That is what you need to know before you buy your rail. -
I bought a Wilson Combat 6.5 Paul Howe barrel. It shoots REAL well. I bought a Bear Creek complete upper and switched the barrel. It was on sale for $329. The Wilson barrel was a little over $300 but it shoots well and I think it was money well spent. I already had a lower and parts for the lower. CDNN has had Bushmaster lowers for $99.00 for a while now.

I also suspect the captured recoil system is part of the problem. They work well on 5.56 builds but not many folks seem to have good luck with these set ups on the large frame guns.

I don't know the balastics on the hammer but you compared it to a 30-30. The 30-30 is more a 200 yds and under cartridge. The Grendel will smoke a 30-30 and do long distance. The Grendel has a ton of factory ammo available.
