Considering the state of current affairs, I could care less what revisionist historians think about anybody who has long been vindicated by standing historical accounts. I'm worried about problems caused by presidents who can't even finish their terms without discrediting themselves and their office. It's sad to see our society become a bunch of armchair quarterbacks who need to discredit the men who made this country great, and to what end? What does anyone gain from Lincoln being a villain? Hate to be the oddball, but Lincoln had enough of a reputation with the majority of our society for long enough to be a credible and upstanding figure in my imagination. What he is in anyone else's imagination doesn't have the slightest bearing on anything, being that he is long gone along with anybody that could've legitimately validated or discredited him.

I don't think anyone is making one. Mega Arms had a great thing going with their MTS-4400 but production ceased when they found out LMT held the patents for monolithic receivers. I don't know how Les Baer and LWRC have continued to build monolithic .308 ARs unscathed, but they are the only ones I know of and they aren't DPMS patterned.

You're GTG for 7.62 in a .308 and vice versa. The specification on the two cartridges are the same at the outside of the case, the 7.62 is thicker to the inside of the case. Welcome to the forums!

I personally find it hard to come to the conclusion that he isn't cut out for the job. He did what he felt was necessary in the moment, and then showed remorse when he realized his mistake. I find that far preferable to someone who would realize that action was justifiable and wouldn't show any remorse whatsoever. That the guy has a heart showed through. I admire the fact that he acted as he thought he needed to without hesitation. My only suggestion to that officer would be to practice making his deadly force more deadly. In this case, I'm mostly thrilled that everyone lived. I imagine it's much easier to live with shooting an old man in the legs, than it is to kill an innocent. Check out this video, it's 15 seconds long before a Trooper is dead, and it serves to illustrate that if you hesitate at all you're a goner.

Amen. No reason to get out of the vehicle period. I'm less than 10 minutes from Mr. Canipe's hometown and people there generally just aren't really bright. Hate it for both of them but I feel like the officer did the right thing actually. After seeing police video from Texas wherein an elderly gentleman takes out a highway patrolman with a single shot from the hip with a rifle, I can understand the reaction and the need to act without hesitation. At least everybody lived in this situation.
