Is a receiver end plate necessary if you use a carbine buffer tube on a DPMS style .308?

It is best to use the receiver end plate ,it is nothing more than spacer but it holds a spring and detent in position.

I don't believe it holds the spring and detent for the takedown pin on the DPMS 308 platform, they are held in by the pistol grip along with the spring and detent for the safety selector.

What holds your takedown pin in place... SuperGlue©®™ !

My Fulton takedown pin detent and spring are held in by the grip, right behind the selector detent. Pretty sure DPMS is the same. The fact that he asked the question in the first place leads me to believe the aero is the same.

I have 5 lowers (3 brands ) with hole in the rear covered by end plate.

I guess they aren't DPMS or Aero lowers then, are they?

Do you need a picture Mike? I'll go dig the rifle out and pull the grip just for you!

Depends on the lower, My Ares lowers have the takedown pin spring and detent hole drilled and threaded in the standard AR15 location - under the end plate, retained by a small (#4-40) set screw with a standard length spring, no spacer. :)

Diagram on page 27.

Your welcome.

Only because you're being such a fucking smartass, Mike.  It was already stated the GRIP holds the takedown detent and spring in place.  That's on DPMS, Fulton, Aero, and a metric $hit-ton of others.

Here's another pic that shows it - you can SEE the two springs, right?...

You worry me, bro - I've found out two things about you tonight.  1.  You need to build more Big ARs.  2.  You need glasses.  THICK motherfuckin' glasses.  "So thick you can see the future" kinda glasses...  <lmao>

LMAO ... 98 I was being a smart a$$ today, I stated that I looked at aero's site and the M5 lower had 2 holes on the rail above the grip but Larry keep going.

I have 3 lowers with 2 holes above the grip and 5 lowers with 1 hole in the back. I Do Not have a M5 Aero lower just their ar15 lowers !

But that $h!t was funny !
