beachmaster
So, it has begun. I will keep everyone updated on what I am buying, and I will ask questions from you guys about what I should get next. This should be fun! But slow. So, my wife doesn't know, but her build just started with an Aim Bcg-x. It has a nib body, and everything else is nitride. $100 shipped.I just sold 50 slings to a local pawn shop, and this is the only $ that will get splurged, because every other cent will be going to prepping for the NPS preppers expo in Louisville in October!I just dropped $550 on sling supplies, and I got a new color, so when my order gets in, I will be doing a giveaway of said color sling! It's going to be fun!I am not on here as much as I should be, but you guys are awesome, and my friends here will be the only ones I will be going to for advice! Also, I might end up hitting for for sale section here pretty hard for this build lol

beeks
The first thing you want to do is go to sites like this and sign up to receive the daily and weekly sales adds in your e-mail. (I do like the quality and value of AP sales items.) http://aeroprecisionusa.com/on-sale.htmlCheaper than dirt, midway, and surplus ammo are other sites to check out for sales. 98Z5V
Jacob, if you see someone for sale here, and it's bad timing on $$$, then PM me. I'll snatch it up for you and barter in equal value of slings. :thumbsup:Hold out for the Faxon Pencil barrel - after putting a decent amount of rounds through it last weekend, I'm very, very impressed with it. At 1.19lbs, you're definitely not going to find anything that's as: accurate, inexpensive, and lightweight. <<< Nathan has the market cornered on that combination, by far. beachmaster
Are these of any use?I really appreciate the offer man, but it isn't quite the direction that I am headed in. :-) On another note, I have the bcg, upper, lower, lpk, a buttstock, and a red dot... Besides the barrel, would you guys suggest really putting money down anywhere else? Can I go with a cheap buffer tube kit from brownells, and a normal lp gas block, or is there somewhere where it is important I go with higher end parts? jtallen83
Just saw this barrel on sale, 16 inch, 223 Wylde, rifle length gas;http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XRA16RC223RIFLE&name=Rainier+Arms+.223+Wylde+Barrel+Rifle-Length+16+in.+Rock+Creek+Blank&groupid=
Malig8r
^^^ I thought there were reliability issues when you had a rifle length gas system on a 16" barrel??? Not enough dwell time to cycle properly right? Or can you ameliorate that issue with a different buffer weight?
jtallen83
I thought so as well but Rainier seems to think they can do it, they seem to have a decent reputation. Then again maybe that's why these are on sale.........
98Z5V
It can definitely be done, and has been done. Rifle gas on a 16" 5.56 barrel is the true original Dissipator. In the Viet Nam era, it was the M655.It's just hard to get right. "Fake" Dissipators are everywhere, and use a midlength or carbine gas system, hidden under the handguard:
jtallen83
After my trials with getting a 16 inch 308 rifle length gas going I don't think I'd try the same in 5.56.....unless I see them working regularly for others. I was surprised to see one for sale and realize now that just because it's sold don't mean it works!
98Z5V
The Bushmaster Dissipator ran, well. I've never seen one, but I'd like to get my hands on one. I'd rip that thing apart and see what they did to make it work. The Colt M655s from Viet Nam supposedly ran, too, but good luck even finding a picture of that damn thing anymore - searches lead you to bullshiit that are not the M655s. You can get close with the M656, but it was suppressed... Same platform, but suppressed...

Same platform, but suppressed...I'm not sure when the original Bushmaster Dissipator was introduced but I purchased Bushmaster Dissipator 2nd hand in '97 or '98, and it was a "post ban". No flash hider. It did however have a carbine length gas system, hidden underneath a full length handguard. Very similar setup to those Shaw barrels pictured. That was my first AR-type rifle of any sort. I was so impressed that when a buddy needed cash for his "pre ban" Colt green label HBAR I jumped at the offer. That's the Colt representative that forever soured me on Colt as a viable modern brand. beachmaster
Hey guys! Things are going great! So far I have a JD machine upper and lower, Vortex red dot, Anderson lpk, mft minimalist stock, and an Aim nitride/ nickel boron bcg.All I need now is a commercial buffer tube, buffer, spring, barrel, gas tube, and barrel!I decided to go with the faxom 14.5" lightweight barrel with mid length gas tube, and I am going to hang a monster comp off the end of it.Which will look interesting since I got a slim no name keymod rail that is 15"...I can't wait to throw it together and give you guys a weight and total price!
