accidental discharge

I can't count how many rounds I've dropped over the years. I'm actually very rough with my ammo, as I toss that shit all over. In fact, I had a dud at the range the other day, and I threw it from about 15' away, into a steel drum.... No bang! This guys was victim to an absolute freak accident. Take into account the amount of ammo shot and dropped every single day of the year, I'll bet the chances of getting struck by lightening is greater than this happening.

a bullet discharged from being dropped (besides the astronomical odds) wouldn't be very likely to shrapnel, it would just fly off since there isn't a barrel to give it velocity.  I call BS.  He had an accidental discharge from the firearm and injured himself.  I'm very surprised the range doesn't have cameras.

Re-reading it...the bullet dropper in question was a SWAT officer? And shrapnel from a bullet that exploded on the ground and hit his hand caused him to be hospitalized over night? Sounds legit.

the way I read it there are two stories here, very confusing. Guns are bad they kill women, children and young Misunderstood black youths.........wait what?!?!

Nope Blue...its two different stories here in DFW  lol one at the Frisco gun range ...the swat officer in a different place altogether......safety first  Ha   and yes this place is a multimillion dollar shooting range covered with cameras...Yall remember the vid i posted of them coming out of a secret door and stopping me from a triple tap....this place had a shooting when it first opened too

I stay pretty much away    Wash

"There's been a shooting at Frisco Gun Club!"  "The bullet exploded when it hit the ground."  "The shooting victim..."  Way to be accurate media.

Those exploding bullets really should have a delayed fuse, so they don't explode until they're fired.

Yes, two different incidents.  Here's the SWAT article:  http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Irving-SWAT-Officer-Injured-at-Gun-Range-325773851.html

Depending on the caliber, the bullet itself likely weighs more than the case.  The laws of physics dictates that the lighter part would be the one to be propelled.  he could have been hit by the case just as easily.

The ammo could have been in a hot car all day before going to shoot.  It also could have been a reload that was loaded too hot.

The story indicated that there was video of the incident.  Hopefully it will be released once the investigation is complete.

To start with, that's NOT a fukking shooting! A shooting involves discharging a firearm! Douchebag reporters, I swear!

The incident as claimed by the victim could have happened but as others have said, the odds are extremely slim of something like that taking place. I think the victim isn't telling the whole story!

The reporter was doing OK up to the last sentence, where she said that the man "who was shot" was taken to the hospital.  He wasn't shot.  The guy in the reporting says the film show that the victim's gun was down and he was just reloading a magazine.  392 is dead on: it ain't no shooting.  Might be a freak accident.  I suspect he could have been hit by small fragments as the case shattered.  Not bullet fragments.  Bullet fragments would seem to defy the laws of physics.  Gotta see the film.  Obviously not serious if he walked over to a range officer.

I'm not buying the story.  I've been extremely rough on ammo in my life, as well as those around me being equally (or more) rough on ammo, and I've never seen anything like that happen.

There's alot more to the story that's not being told.

I didn't read the main article yesterday, but from what I'm reading it may have been corrected. Someone who read it originally take a look.

Yeah, that's been edited.  The word "shooting" has been scrubbed, even though they are still saying "the bullet" exploded.

http://www.winchester.com/Products/components/Pages/default.aspx

The bullet is the projectile and exploding projectiles in 1-man portable arms are rare indeed.

Hard to enforce the terminology issue, when the gun community themselves throws spittle-laced tirades such as "It isn't a CLIP!  It's a magazine!  So load the bullets in the magazine, with the caseings pointing backwards.  Then stick them into the hole on the bottom, under your hand."  Then turning the handgun and sweeping the people next to them, to show where the magazine release "mag-drop" is located.

I am da only one in dis room professionally enough to handle dis glock!!! BLAM!!! Oh who can ever forget that one! i do give him credit for trying to continue after shooting himself.  I read that he later sued the DEA because other agents made fun of him so badly.
