Thunderdome
Hello everyone!!!!! I have finally found a awesome forum, thanks for making it the way it is. So I am from Texas and have a Dpms Lr-308 with the 24" fluted bull barrel. I currently have a Redfield 3-9 50 on there, however on the way is a Nightforce nxs 5.5-22 50. Also have a bipod and a cyclops light for night hunting. I am looking to make this a 1000 yd gun and think I am headed in the right direction but I do have some questions. 1. Best bullet for 1000 yard shots. Would use these to hunt with as well. I don't expect to shoot anything but targets at 1000, most hunting will be done from 50-500 yards.2. Should I change the stock out?3. Is anyone shooting this gun 1000 yards and what's the groups look like. I also will be changing the trigger but was wondering what everyone is using. 3-4 pound trigger at most. Also the light isn't mounted on scope, I boutique a 45 angle rail and stuck it on the end of the float tube.

jtallen83
Welcome from Iowa, via North Carolina. For a two stage trigger I really like my Geissele SSA-E, for a single stage the Mech Armour Rough Justice trigger is a great quality trigger for the money.Check out the group buy offer from Mech Armour on a trigger-charging handle combo; http://mechdefense.com/products/308ar-com-group-buy-trigger-sale

Robocop1051
175gr is about as big (long) as you'll be able to load into a magazine. You can ride a single 180gr on the top of a magazine and single load. If you're just killing paper, it shouldn't bother you too much.I personally hunt with 150gr to 155gr. I have a .308 Oracle with a 16" barrel, Geissele two stage (around 4#), I am more used to a Timney one stage 4#, I added a rubber slip on to the metal butt plate. I may switch back to Timney, and with the scope it is as heavy as an M1 3006. I live in Comanche county texas. I haven't shot anything heavier than a Remington 150 grain corelokt. I think it will put down anything big enough to die in Texas, We have a few really big feral hogs.Where are you located? If the stock works for you, keep it, maybe add a cheek piece.BTW.... Do you use a 2 wheel dolly to move that cannon around?
Thunderdome
Sometimes when I'm tracking I wish I had a 2 wheel dolly. Only positive to all that weight is less recoil....I am out of Lubbock but if I drive 1 hour east there is some good hunting. Good size whitetail and tons of pigs. Also coyotes and bobcats seem to like the receiving end of my .308. I will wait on my stock to see how it plays with my scope. As far as the trigger goes I'm thinking 1 stage.
