Chrome lining came about after fighting in wet, humid climates, in a time when stainless steel wasn't a viable option in the manufacture of firearms. The chrome helps to prevent rust and excessive wear, as compared to a non-lined steel barrel. My preference these days is for either stainless or melonite coated. 98Z5V Posted January 3, 2017 Report Share Posted January 3, 2017 I've been very happy with Criterion barrels, and the two Faxon barrels I have are top notch as well. Can't go wrong with either.
