Lube

What is good oil for AR’s. Is rem oil any good?  Temperature is pretty cold outside now.  I typically spray some in there and blow it out with air.  Then wipe off the outside. I do quite a bit of night hunting.  That has always worked on my semi auto shotguns.

Everybody has their personal favorite lube and there's a gazillion of them. I use a bunch but the killer for me is cold weather and many just fall down when encountering really cold weather. Yes, even some lubes that I liked in "normal" weather proved to thicken, despite saying they wouldn't, in the cold. I haven't tested it yet, but a friend did, in the cold and with full auto. His one oil that passed was Liberty Lube. Trusting him and his testing I adopted it. Warm weather? Just pick one. I still do that, but not in the really cold weather.

Supposedly, DLC coatings also greatly reduce the requirement for lube, but I lube DLC coated parts anyway.

That's cool.  We, here, helped test and develop the lube that Rex suggested.  It went YEARS here.

.308AR.com was the testbed for this stuff. All across the country, in varying weather conditions.  Roman even poured dirt INTO his gun, testing this stuff.

Stick with what you know - but not until you try this stuff.

Properly applied that AZ lube performed in -20's. It only needs a very fine film, warming things a bit helps get it spread. I used it in a 1,000 round test for 300 BO suppressed, made it without cleaning but if I remember correctly it took a couple rounds to loosen up in the below zero after the round count got up there, keep in mind it had had lube added so there was piles of lube and carbon stuck all over, it didn't freeze up like I saw with the lubes as a kid. I was amazed something so thick to start with would work in the cold but it does.

I can't really claim jack $hit. But everybody knows that I HATE cleaning rifles. I hadn't even touched my Mk18 since the last AZ trip back in 2019. Didn't ever think about taking her apart. Once again. I HATE cleaning rifles. I'd rather build another one than clean one. :laffs:

But taking the Mk18 out to the fall meet-up this last November. She ran flawless. And I didn't even lube her before shooting her after a couple years. Though, to be honest and fair. I did rack her a couple times before loading her. Just to make sure that she wasn't too dry.

After that, she just ran. As usual.

PS - I did add a couple drops of the AZ lube to her after the first mag. Just because.

And I'm not shilling this $hit just because he's a personal friend. This $hit just WORKS. Suppressed....un-suppressed. This stuff just works itself into the parts of the rifle.
