planeflyer21 Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 Historically, Japanese tanto are a clip-point blade, the point exiting in a steady curve back to a straight blade. It truly is a brilliant design!Jon
edgecrusher Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 That 111a is HUGE. I like those tacti-machete's. Did you get the tanto or the standard point? Both are tanto, serrated edge on the 107d…. My wife bought both for me, I was a good boy once!
Magwa Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 A gerber Parabellum strapped to my pack and a Kershaw Ripcord on my belt now my Scalping knife is a custom mammoth ivory handled Bad sum Bitch
jrtMA Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I carry my Benchmade Griptilian almost ever day. It's a well made little pocket knife. It's a bit pricey. I try to avoid buying too many knives because it's hard to judge the value and prices are all over the map.
Magwa Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Hmmmm is my deodorant not cutting it this thread died after I posted , and i know full well more of you carry knives. "sniffs under arm"
Rsquared Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Well. We got 2 pages worth. And most of the regulars have thrown in. But I agree. You know everybody carries one.

Tripledeuce Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 My friend, the late Bob Loveless told me many years ago that the most important part of choosing a knife is to consider the use to which it will be put. The type of knife, the use to which it will be put are first considerations, befor even deciding on the type of steel used for the blade. Blade steel is important, as well as finish of the blade. Did you know that most form of 440 steel has a "draw" temp of 300-400*? That means that if the polisher of the knife gets a little over zellos, he can take all the harding out of the blade befor the knife is even finished! Most of my knives are made of "custom" steel, ATS 34 or 154CM. But I do have quite a number of "Factory" knives. Most made of AUS8 or one of the 400 searies. some are even tool steel! A-2 and D-2, both non stainless. Bob smiled, one day when I pulled out my Schrade stockman. I asked what was so funny. He said." I know you have a lot of knives, but it tickles me to see you use the "right" knife for the right job. So, the next time you look at a knife, envision the use it will be put to, and what kind of steel its made out of. Respectfully Terry
planeflyer21 Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Yup. For my purposes, if they get used they get confiscated. No sense in losing a $$$ knife. Jon
shepp Posted March 23, 2013 Author Report Posted March 23, 2013 yup i left my nice brand new shinny knife on the bumper of the truck i drove for work today after pokeing a hole in the red rag i was putting the the metal hanging out the back of the truck. ended up finding it when i got back to the shop i found it in the middle of the hwy not so shinny anymore. i liked the gerbers that i had because i could unlock it one handed and put my knife back in my pocket. not so much on this one, no more buying online for knive unless is spesific on the blade lock or i handle one first........
392heminut Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) So, what steel is the best use for just generally fukking up the edge? That is pretty much all I do with mine! Edited March 23, 2013 by 392heminut
DNP Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 My knife is typically used as a shovel. I still haven't replaced my CRKT that the Disney bastards stole...I need a new shovel/pry bar ASAP. The spyderco just ain't doing it.
