I find this whole thread hilarious. especially when someone says longer barrels, that create velocity, that help resist the environmental effects such as wind, are more accurate than shorter barrels. When I think of accuracy, I think of repeatability. But adjusting for things like wind, doesn't exactly repeat each shot. So in my way of thinking, the only way to truly test the "accuracy" of shorter to longer barrels is to fire them in controlled conditions so that no adjustments need to be made.

Anyone have a 1000 yard indoor range? :hornet:

Here is an interesting read on the quest for ultimate accuracy;

http://www.angelfire.com/ma3/max357/houston.html

They determined that 21 3/4 inch was the optimal barrel length for accuracy.

JT thanks man. :thumbup:  :hail:I had read this article and thought of it when this discussion came back up. Some great stuff came out of that set up down in Houston. Glad I got a chance to reread it brother.

7mm-08, love the round. if they develop wider rage of bullets/cartridges, it would basically be able to do anything.

wish I had access to the Houston warehouse to see how accurate my rifles are.

I went back and looked after I posted. Don't see it anymore. I can only afford my 5.56, 308, and 9mm. Sold everything else lol.

I hunt with a 16" .308 and have harvested everything from rabbits to bears with that round. I absolutely love when people tell me I NEED a longer barrel.

But you didn't say how big the bear was.

Saw that a "guest" was reading this thread, so I hopped back in here.  Just read through the whole thing.

This is one EPIC thread.  :hail::banana:

Seems that every new person trolling the board is looking at REALLY OLD SHIIT HERE.  I guess that fits what they were searching for - with whatever they were searching for.

Not long ago, some new fucker said that this was a dead board, or something like that - and he was looking at all the treads from 2010, 2011, and such - "low traffic" he said, because he didn't see responses to those old-ass threads.

Whatever.  Take your Low Traffic Ass somewhere else, if we disappoint you in the manner that you didn't expect.  :thefinger:
