  1. First: THERE ARE NO MIL SPECS FOR THE 308 PLATFORM!!!!!!!!!!!! respectfully Terry
  2. What is the shops Guarentee policy? I once replced a contender bbl for a customer. He's asked me to re-chamber a 357 bbl to 357-44 Bain and Davis, The reamer left a small "nick" in the vey rear of the bbl. of no mechanical meaning, but the customer didnt like "the look". Again, ask the stores policy. Respectfully Terry
  3. Magwa was supposed to check one of these out a month ago. What happened? Respectfully Terry
  4. I'v got a number of different guns in the safe. Everything from the 22 hornet to the 458 Win Mag. Semi's, bolts. single shots. If I had to get rid of everything, but ONE gun, that gun would be my Browning M1885single shot, that I re-barrlled to 7X57 mauser. With 160 grain old style noslers, it will take anything on earth, even elepanant. Respectfully Terry
  5. Back in the day, when I had a retail shop, and did general gunsmithing, Whenever I had to outsource something, I sent one of my own guns first. I was doing a lot of 1911 work, as well as custom long guns. Numerous places that needed heli-arcing. Its suprising how many "certified" welders couldn't do a decent job on guns! I took one gun to six different welders. The seventh was able to fix the stuff the other six botched. even in the mid 70's I was paying him $100 an hour,$100 minimum. He was worth every penny! Always ask to see a sample of the work, first! Respectfully Terry
  6. What many people today don't know about Jack O'Conner, is that he had a "back-up" rifle. A customised Springfield 30-06 that ALWAYS went with him! And, he used that same "back-up rifle to take many of the heads of game he shot! Days, weeks, and years pass. Those of us that actually KNEW Elmer Kieth, Jack O'Conner, Dean Grinnell and a lot of the famous wrighters of "the old days" are passing. also. Those I mentioned, all were around when the 280, 7mm Mag, 264 mag and others were introduced. In some ways, those "old guys" were stiffled by what they were "known" for. Elmer the 44 Mag, and 41 mag, Jack for the 270, and Dean as the guru of reloading. In private, they all agreed that there were a lot of really fine cartridges out there, and rifles to go with them. In public, they had to go with what they were famous for. The difference between the 270 and the 7mm is .007" Seven thousandths of an inch! About the thickness of a single sheet of paper! Personally, I think that every safe should contain at least ONE 30-06, just because there is so much ammo available. 30-06 o 270? you pays your money, and take your pick. Respectfully Terry

  11. I'd probably start with my "cowboy" loads. 2.7 grains of Bullseye, and a lead 125 gr. rnfp. Respectfully Terry
  12. I shot the 44 mag. 4" version ONCE. I'v shot hundreds of thousands of 44 mag's, and NOTHING came close to the brutal recoil of that beast! Respectfully Terry
  13. It looks like a stress fracture, from a bad casting. to me, Respectfully Terry
  14. Those guns win the "Ugly of the year" award!!! Terry
  15. Gonna need a suppressor on that thing!
  16. I'v shot the 45-70 for over 50 years. everythig from black powder, to duplex blackpowder, lead cast bullets to jacketed. Rght now I'm, trying two different loads. A 550gr cast bullet with 5744, and Hornadys new 325 gr flex tip with IMR 4198. The jacketed bullet has quite a bit of recoil!!!!!! Respectfully Terry
  17. At one time, I made a few thousand 300 savage cases out of '06. All that required is a file/trim die. Respectfully Terry
  18. here was a thread???? T.
  19. Thats the problem! true wild dog would not be fiere. The semi demostiated dog has lost all fear of man, and in pack situation woud as soon attack s run. I know, here ,in the wilds of southwestern Colordo, we have to deal with more than our share of abandonded dogs and cats. Shoot, dig, forget. Respectfully Terry
  20. I don't personally know Ma Duce, nor do I personally know any of the other members. I DO know myself! i;m bi-polar, and have OCD. When I decide on a route, I almost NEVER diviate, for any reason. There were times in my life that I owned only one gun, usually a Ruger Standard auto. It went with me , everywhere. I had, on one occasion, to put down two of a friend dogs. They were running loose, and a danger. One shot each, between the eyes, and an inch high. I also shot a jackrabbit that I hit 9 times, and still didn't kill it. Here in Colorado, we had a pack of half-wolves that the owner just abandoned. The locals(police and humaine) could do nothing! Finnaly, the Ute indians hired a helicopter and a gunner, and put the whole pack down. I was attaccked, once, buy a pack of wild dogs. Luckly, I was armed with a Colt 1911, and several spare mags. The last one was almost right at me, my shot was straight down, through the top of his head. About 6" from my leg. Out of respect, I will not doubt MaDuces account, without more information. Respectfully Terry
  21. Does taste really good!!
  22. CWD is caused by prion infection of the brain. It can only be killed by temperatures in excess if 1,000*, The brain, spinal cord, and spinal fluid is affected. I, personally, NEVER cut any bone on a deer or elk. I bone out everything. Yes, I do leave some meat on the bone, epecially around the neck bones! BUT If I don't cut the spinal cord, there is NO chance to contaminate the meat. Animals with CWD have been found in Colorado for over the last 10 years. I;v never heard of anyone coming down with the disease. Respectfully Terry
  23. Shot some in my wifes Preditor. It shot well, gong to pick up lot more! Respectfully Terry
  24. I think 50 posts is to high, maybe 15 or 20. That would give "newby" a chance to figgure some things out. Oh! And- the Nikon 308 scope is a nice one! My wife has one on her Preditor! Respetfully Terry
