  5. If there is one thing I'v learned, in 50 years of ;smithing, it that one person NEVER knowes it all!LOL!! Respectfully Terry
  6. I'v never, in 50 years, camphered the ejector tube holes. Thats not to say, depending on your gun, that it might be a good idea. Respectfully Terry
  7. The answer to the question, Could I remove that much metal with just 3 turns, is YES!!! It takes very little to remove the rifiling from a bbl. And, reamers are mostly ground to SAAMI specs. Except special order reamers, wildcats, and that sort of thing. I'v got 3 308/7,62 reamers. one is ground with almost NO leade, one is a short throat, and one is a standard 308/7,62. I just looked. The "standard" reamer does seem to have a long throat. Not like Weatherbys, with .625 thou, freebore, but long Respectfully Terry
  8. Yes on the trigger jigs! Over the years, I'v collected 5 different ones! Currant favorite is the Power custom, series 1. Respectfully Terry
  9. Most finish reamers have a "throating" portion ground into the reamer. Look closley at your reamer, from the front of the case mouth to the end of the reamer. I'll bet you find that your reamer was ground with a long throat. If this is so, as I expect, there is nothing to be done but possibly use something like a Barnes tripleshock, that likes a long jump. Its not that your bbl is bad, but you used the wrong reamer. One ground for heavy , possibly target , bullets. Respectfully Terry
  10. Shot some through the wifes Preditor. OK, good plinking ammo. 223, and 9mm is also good stuff. Respectfully Terry
  11. I'd be real leary of the powder You poured back into the can. Respectfully Terry

    Kimber

A story I heard from an old time Texas Ranger. He carried a 1911, 7 in the mg, one up the spout. No extra mags. When asked, He said ," If I need more than 8 rounds, I need more than a pistol." I'v carried since 1968. 1911, sometimes with an extra mag, sometimes not. The only time I had to draw, was a guy that broke into my gunshop. He was in a crawlspace under the shop. My only shot could have rickoched into the gas meter! Nither the SO who resopnded nor myself fired. Suspect shot at us once. SO deputit relised I was a civilion, kicked over the trash can I was hiding behind, and yelled, cover the hole in the floor. It turned out to be two of them, they eventually surrended, but had torn a hole trough the floor to gain access to the shop. The access was alarmed, but did not go off when they removed the cover. Alarm went off when they actually entered the building. I'll keep my 1911's, both Colt and Kimber. Respecfully Terry
  13. Just bend the 1/3 of the spring that presses on the grip safety. So it gives the spring tension you want. Respectfully Terry
  14. My wife just ordered a bbl and "kit" Brass, etc. Can't wait untill it gets here! Respectfully Terry
  15. Hint: Try using emory cloth, instead of sandpaper. It gives a better finish, without shedding abrasive. Respectfully Terry
  16. I use nylon brushes. Copper , and bronze are what your trying to get OUT of the bbl. Respectfully Terry

As a custom gunsmith I got my start in 1911's almost 50 years ago. Nothing "over the counter" seemed just right to me. I bought a Kimber ultra carry II, about 5 years ago. The only thing I'v done to it was change the front sight! Since then, I bought a solo for my wife. I'v done NOTHING to it but shoot it. NO FTF of any kind. Todays 1911's are light years ahead of what even custom guns were in the 70's and 80's. Find one you like, and go for it! Respectfully Terry
  18. Got a really nice Schrade 3 blade stockman knife! Looks lie it is fresh from the factory! Respectfully Terry
  19. In Colorado, it is illegal to hunt with radios, or spotter airplaines. and several other "aids". Respectfully Terry
  20. Same Winchester I bought! Ran out of space in the old Cannon.LOL!! Respectfully Terry
  21. Anytime! Respectfully Terry
  22. The 38AMU is a semi-rimless ctg developed for target usage. Basicly, its a 38 with most of the rim cut off. uses a different breach face, and mag than the 45ACP. Supposed to headspace on the case mouth, not the rim. A slide and mag from a 38 super can be used, along with the 38AMU bbl. Respectfully Terry
  23. The rib is a BOMAR, not robar. and a slide from a 38 super works for the 38MU ctg. That rib cost around $100 in 1980, plus instalition. Several ways to install the rib, to inhance accuracy. Also, befor shooting with ball, or especially +p, you need to replace the recoil spring with a new "standard" 17# spring or higher. the Gold Cup used a lighter spring for target loads. Also, disamble the slide and frame, and check the slide for locking lug wear, from shooting hot loads in it! Respectfully Terry
  24. Trap uses a gun with a different stock. The comb is higher , and the gun shoots high. Skeet uses the same dimensions as a regular field gun. And, yes, I'v shot a few thousand rounds of both trap and skeet. With all kinds of guns. From 410 to 10 ga, trap, skeet, and field guns. The most fun I had was shooting a 20 ga field grade Browning . Respectfully Terry
  25. I know nothing of shooting from a bi-pod. How does one "load" a bi-pod, and why? Respectfully Terry
